Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Seems like a simple moral: personally check all grounds on a new '14 before it leaves the dealer. If any are loose, have it noted on the service record.

Yeah, I think I'd feel a LOT better about what I went through, and a LOT better about getting a new one, if Chrysler had stepped up to the plate. That's what really burns me here.

On a different topic, I happened to trade in a Q5 for this Jeep and I absolutely loved it. The only reason I traded it in was purely a short term change in my life that made it necessary. I do plan on buying another Audi when my lease is up on the Jeep. To me the interface with the radio became intuitive pretty quickly and it drove far more like a car than a truck. I had no problems in my two years of owning it and was pleased with my service from both my dealership and Audi in general. Although to be fair I've had good experience with my Jeep dealer thus far as well.
Interesting.

Well, I guess I'll see how the next one goes. God help us, but if we get another Lemon, I think the Q5 is probably next in line. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

And Padgett, do you know how many different ground-to-body locations there are on the GC? I wonder if this information is available. I don't think the dealer would go through the whole vehicle, so it would probably be up to me to do it once I got it home.

WHAT?!?!$!?

I would not pay for the truck without going through the grounds before signing, if I were you. Having read this thread, were I to buy my truck again, I'd have them all checked before paying a penny. If they have a problem with that, screw 'em and move on.

What's to say they'd even do what they said? I wouldn't believe them anyway. My current dealer said they'd check it front to back after it died the first time, and I know they didn't because they found the loose ground on the second visit, and it was an obvious one they should have found if they had actually done it the first time.

Uh oh. 2014 Cherokee delayed a month.

Marchionne reportedly described the debut of the Cherokee as a "complicated industrial launch."

Were you thinking of going with a Cherokee?

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

We thought about it at first, mostly for the mileage combined with the go-anywhere capability, but then we realized production wasn't starting until a bit later than we needed. After the accident with the Acura, we needed something pretty quickly.

We saw it in person at the NY Auto Show and in Trailhawk trim, it looks much better.

Then we figured it's possible we could just get a refund with the Lemon money instead of a swap, which would allow us to get into this if we liked it. Since the buyback will probably take 30-60 days, I thought there was a chance the timing would work... But I shouldn't tempt fate anyway. It's an ENTIRELY new model, and my wife and I love the GC anyway... and if Marchionne himself is saying, "it's complicated," well, I'm not sold right now on Chrysler's ability to do "complicated."

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Yep, I think it looks awesome, but its not a GC... although its supposed to have the new tech package with lane departure and all that... if they can't get pandora out the door for my system, I won't chance it on some new heavy tech.

PS - I did some reading on lemon law, and at least here you can get a refund or same vehicle, and the refund includes delivery charges etc, even rust proofing if you paid for it.

The dealer will never take the time (unless you are paying them their hourly rate) to check all the grounds and update the tsb's. Chrysler isn't going to reimburse them for doing the extra labor. The dealer may say they did the work, but in reality it doesn't get done.

That's why on a new vehicle I have no standing to ask for that. On my current vehicle, however, I asked for this AFTER I believed the issue to be ground related because the vehicle died. If they had only listened to me and had done what they said, perhaps I wouldn't have a lemon right now.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I'd offer to pay their head mechanic his hourly charge (off the clock) and stand there and watch him check them. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I feel for you, being a fellow Long Islander and Jeep owner. I just picked up my 2nd Jeep last week, a 2013 GC. My first jeep was a used 1998 GC Laredo 5.7L Z package, that I got from Westbury Jeep in 2000. That thing was an absolute nightmare... individual gears in the tranny replaced 3 or 4 times, radiator blew, power steering pump blew when I was making a turn, check engine light would be on so often that I am shocked the service techs didn't just remove the lightbulb that lit it. There was a host of other issues that crippled it for the 3 year lease, a good portion of which I was away with the Army. Missed qualifying for the lemon law at the time by a small window, thing spent over 75 days at the shop during the 3 year period. To this day, I think very poorly of that dealership, and avoided them like the plague this time around. I had a VW Jetta for 6 years that only needed oil changes, then I had a "high end" german auto (certified used) fall apart on me after 30K miles. I bought a new Jeep under the impression they had cleaned up their act, and I hope to God that is the case for me.
