Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I wish you both luck, sounds very similar. First tiime I ran into ground surges/spikes resulting from alternators was while at GM in the early '70s. About that time the SCCA started requiring kill switches and interesting things began happening.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I got a small Customer service win!

I got a call this morning from someone in the Corporate offices. He was actually concerned, sympathetic, wanted to see how the JGC was doing now, wants to check in to see how the Jeep is after a few more days driving it. He understood my concerns about driving it now, without trusting it.

I know it doesn't fix any of my problems, but it makes a world of difference when you feel like they admit there is a problem, and actually want to help resolve it.

@ Padgett, thanks very much. I really hope this is just fixed and I can move on and enjoy a working JGC.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Haha. What I actually think it means is that everyone at Chrysler has left early for the holiday weekend and they aren't answering papers sent by lawyers on behalf of clients who have now gone about 4 out of 6 weeks with their Jeep Grand Cherokees at the dealership. I can't believe I bought a $40K car that STILL isn't in my driveway.

In other news, it's good @marosenb hasn't posted. Hopefully he's out enjoying his fixed Jeep!!

They have had it in the shop 3 times, 21 days, and I seem to be following in your footsteps, as the latest fix was to replace the ABS module. The service guys were sympathetic to me complaining, but they said all they can try to do is fix it and give it back.

i told them flat out that for 2 weeks, I am not putting my kids in it. The service guy said that Chrysler techs claimed they are seeing more than a handful of cases like this, and replacing the ABS module seems to fix them. We'll see.

Here is a real kicker: After the Jeep shut down on the highway the first time, they said that replacing a bad catalytic converter fixed the mechanical issues, but not the electrical. They let me know today that by mechanical issues, they meant they fixed a rattle in the engine, not it refusing to accelerate and then shutting down. The shutting down part was what they were hoping was a one time "quirk".
I guess there really is no good solution for the guinea pig factor. I can't imagine they can just take a tech out of action for a very long extended "real time mileage" test. Seems like it would be inevitable that the test is going to be done by the owner in that kind of case. Hopefully it's fixed though.

I know what you mean, and you have a point. I guess I am extra sensitive to it because the first time, they did not do anything to fix the dangerous problem, and expected it to magically not happen again. That is the guinea pig factor that really bothered me.

AMC: Long work days, so not too many posts from me... I was out enjoying the Jeep, too. Sport mode is too much fun, even in the v6. Tonight's drive home though felt like it had no umph. it's weird to have the engine feel like a completely different engine all of a sudden. I think I will call the dealer tomorrow. I hope yours gets resolved soon. You deserve to be in a nice vehicle at this point.

You would be surprised. In my case, after the second visit, service put on over 100 miles. After the third visit, they put on an additional 160 or so. Would have been nice if they had replaced the gasoline like i had to replace the gas in their loaner.

This time we brought it back on empty. I had filled it immediately each time I got it back. Not this time. They can pay for the "testing" gas.

I think in both our cases, if the service departments had listened to us the first time, well maybe it wouldn't have come to this.

I think we both deserve new vehicles at this point. Keep us posted. Good luck!

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Still no resolution yet amc, huh?

I totally know how you feel being without your Jeep. Believe it or not my GC just got out of the body shop...yep, got rear-ended 7 days ago (minor damage). The trailer hitch took most of the blow, glad I ordered it! Jeep was in the shop for 4 days getting the lower plastic pieces of the rear bumper replaced...good as new, total costs for the guy who hit me...$615.61 including rental (he paid out of pocket).

I've own my GC Limited for about a month now, and between my earlier issues with an airbag module and getting rear ended, my jeep has been in the shop for almost half that time...and I've driven 3 different loaner/rentals!

At least the guy paid up and you've been "made whole," not that it wasn't a PITA I'm sure. I just filed for the paperwork yesterday for the full accident report so I can take to court the uninsured motorist that ran the red light that totaled our Acura. I probably will never see the money. USAA is going after him for the $29K payout, including my $500 deductible, and I'm sure his own finance company for his 2011 Nissan Xterra probably found out he wasn't insured. He's going to be on the hook for that damage as well. So I doubt there will be anything left. I think the Sheriff is allowed to seize assets, so perhaps it's "whoever is first in line." Dunno.

Interestingly enough, that Acura got rear-ended 20 minutes after I left the dealership with it brand new. I guess it was doomed from the start.

As for the GC, I guess they're keeping it over the long weekend. It's a good thing we had no plans to go out of town. I wonder how many miles it has on it now? It's like a long-lost relative that you haven't heard from in a while -- you hope they're doing well, and think of them often.

I'm not sure how many different cars we've had in our driveway in the past two months. I think it's maybe five or six between the accident and the GC. The neighbors must wonder what's going on. haha

At least our loaners have been solid, if not ideal replacements. My wife is getting a little tired of the Liberty though. Maybe we're just paranoid because of what we've been through, but it seems like it's shifting really rough, and she says maybe because it's so bouncy, sometimes while driving it feels like it's going to stall or it's losing power or something.

Just really hope we get what we paid for soon is all. I think Chrysler should at least pick up another lease payment at this point. I mean, I'm paying about double for this Liberty what I should be paying.
