Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

What kills me about your whole ordeal is Chrysler's complete lack of awareness of forums/social media. Had they just bit the bullet and exchanged the GC, they would not only have kept a fan, but created good will within the community, possibly causing multiple other people to end up buying a Jeep. In the short term, sure it would have cost them a bit, but they could use that Jeep to diagnose the problem and improve quality, while at the same time improving their standing in the community. It's not only the right thing to do, but in the long run it actually does them more good than bad.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Not a thread steal, but here I was thanking God that I was not having any issues... serves me right for relaxing. I was on the way to the cottage for the weekend with wife and kids, I was watching traffic and not paying attention but noticed that the radio turned off... wife says "whats going on?". I looked down and noticed everything was black, nav stack speedo, all of it... rebooted itself immediately and stayed on for the rest of the trip, but now I am nervous. LOL.. ain't life grand.

The biggest problem for me isn't a major mechanical problem. It's all the little things that come and go that leaves me wondering what's next.

I never had a vehicle that I liked this much, but had so little confidence in.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

My radio has rebooted a couple of times but I've never lost the speedo. Even with my troubles tonight, the electrical system seemed fine.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Folks I can't emphasize the need for being able to at least read any error codes. Whether you have an Android smart phone or tablet or a Windows notebook or netbook, all you need is less than $30 from Amazon (of you have to spend $5 at the playstore for Torque).

Eithe OBDWiz or Torque can e-Mail the result to you and if posted here (not 20 pages please) we will have something to go on.

Yes Virginia it is available for a Mac, just more ex$pen$ive.

OK you just spent $40k for the WK2 & I just spent three times the cost of a dongle filling my tank today. Knowing the codes is the only way to have a handle on what is going on.

For example one parameter tells you how long the engine has been running. That would tell you if the blackout you just experienced was a full reset or just a comm line fault to the display.

Anything else and you are just guessing. Besides I have 5 GB of albums (four versions of "Layla" plugged and unplugged) on a smart card when I am not looking at the parameter display or sometimes at the same time. Can tell immediately if your new CAI is working.

You *should* be able to relax.

It's ridiculous any of us would have to be on eggshells....

I am hoping this is just a Uconnect software glitch that will be updated. It is good to know that the software doesn't impact the driving, only the readouts.

I could be wrong, but I think that most of the folks in this thread have vehicles that are under warranty. Why do we need to check codes, that's what the dealer is going to do.

When cars were a hobby, and more mechanical than electronic, I could keep just about anything running. Now I don't gara what a fancy computer says, since I know I don't have a spare part in the trunk to fix it.

The only 'code' I need is the number for roadside assistance.

I'm not saying that for folks interested in fixing their cars codes aren't important. But, I think more people today just want to drive.

I bought my JGC knowing alpine head units suck when it comes to stability and Alpine is terrible with updates so far only one reboot since i bought it this past Monday. I expect plenty more doing the update right now will see how it is after this update. If it were just up to alpine they would never put out updates. They would make us all by a new head unit they don't believe in fixing glitches they just make new models with the same glitches. I have a after market alpine nav in my other vehicle and it does the same things the uconnect does reboots freezes all that good stuff. Love it when it works though best on the market IMO well Audi's google based system is better.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Took delivery of my Overland 6 weeks ago today. Turned over 1,000 miles. No issues with Uconnect unit (knock on wood). I have the update sitting here on a thumbdrive, but I'm not sure I want to install it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I may be a very lucky individual, but my Jeep has been humming along without problems since day one.
