Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Sure it is easy to do, just mainlline mfrs are treating the com/entertainment/sat-nav/diagnostics capability as proprietary.

This is not new, AFAIR GM and SEMA got into it in the last century about difficulty of using aftermaket radios that resulted in a "Radio Accomodation Package" option.

It is just easier to do with a Windows Tablet than an Apple because so many things are restricted or just designed out (e.g. a USB drive cannot be used for general storage). Is kinda funny that many are panning Windows 8 as a flop when from a mobility capability it is incredibly powerful and the first to have thermal control through power management built in (OK, Intel wrote the drivers).

The other limitation is that a 7-8 inch display is the max that can can be easily integrated into a double din and truely powerful ones are just coming into popular use (iPad mini, Windows Clover Trail devices). The big difference is in ventless designs.

Minor stuff.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Hey AMC, any updates?

I have not been on in a while, I had some business trips.

In case anyone is interested in my update:
I had a check engine light come on, and a service shifter message appear. Called the dealer and they said to bring it in. Seemed to be driving fine, but with my Jeep's history, they wanted to check it out right away.

So, I am driving on a busy road, about 200 feet from the dealership. At a stoplight, not moving at all, but my rpms are at around 4K. I'm like wth, when the whole Jeep shuts down. Cars are honking at me, trying to get around me. after what seems like forever (probably only 1 or 2 minutes) it restarts. No check engine light. No warning messages. In fact, driving the 200 feet to the dealer was like driving a different car. No lurching transmission or anything.

Stats:
1300 miles. averaging about 12 mpg. 4 trips to the dealer. About 21 or 22 days in service. Owned since April 15th. JGC Limited, Lux II package, Red, with the beige&black interior (Which is freakin awesome looking, imo).

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

No updates at all. If I don't hear from the dealer tomorrow, I will be going into my fourth week with the Jeep in the service department with no news when a Chrysler engineer might be able to check it out. No call from Chrysler, no word from the lawyer. I am in the ultimate holding pattern. But given your story, I should be happy I have a loaner that seems reliable while I'm waiting for something -- maybe old age.

@marosenb, man do I feel for you. I have been there when my Jeep has just shut down. Boom. Dead. Nothing you can do. Can't even turn on the hazards because there is no power. The feeling of helplessness is just overwhelming. And then it happened with my wife driving and my 5-year-old in the car after my dealer (and even the rep at Chrylser) said it was fixed.. I think yours and mine are just goners. No hope.

It shouldn't be this way.

I got my $500 off envelope yesterday with all the glossy pictures about the GC -- the luxury appointments, beautiful styling -- and it just made me mad and sad at the same time -- sad that I don't have my GC, one that works, and mad that I should have it because I'm PAYING for it.

I think everyone's supposition that no one is doing anything because I had a lawyer send a letter to Chrysler requesting a buyback might be a correct one. I just can't see any other way that this has gone on so long. Someone has to know what's going on. I PM'd a Chrysler person here and they didn't respond. Marlon, god bless him, would probably never say it, but I think he was also told to stop responding to me. Just a sense I got. Maybe I'm paranoid. Probably. Who knows.

I just don't know anything anymore, other than I'm tired of all this.

You must be completely and utterly disheartened after this recent event. If not, you are a better man than I. Hell, you probably are anyway.

Best of luck, my friend. I hope they figure it out.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

You know what's funny? They gave me a 2011 JGC limited as a loaner. Black on Black. Even as a dealer loaner, with like 50K miles on it, and driven by god knows who, it is an awesome vehicle.

For me, as far as contact goes: The last round at the dealer, the Chrysler guy was much more responsive. We will see how he is when I talk with him tomorrow. For you, You seemed to have a huge lack of communication way before you got the lawyers involved. It may have made them clam up more, but they certainly did not seem like they were taking care of anything in the meantime. It may just be that there are deadlines behind the scenes, and you will hear back when everything is settled, or close to it. I hope you get a happy conclusion at the end of all of this.

I hope so too. I just don't know if anything is going on behind the scenes. Just an indication that something was being done would have been enough. But when my "Top Care" guy says he is arguing with my local district service manager, and that he is "being difficult," it seemed the writing was on the wall.

I wish my dealership had GC's as loaners, even older ones.

Supposedly he is still waiting to hear from Chrysler. He said we are not likely to hear anything until I get my Jeep back. So I am in a catch-22.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I deal with this all the time with computers (and this is an electronics issue). We are paying beta testers. Help desks are desing to provide a minimum wage bufer between owners and Those Who KnowI have one that does almost everything except have an HDMI output. Last March the owner's manual had it in the specs and was told I just needed an unobtanium adapter. The May revision removed it. Hope the diesel isn't the same.

Have a feeling if this whole mess showed up in Automotive News something would happen. But AN probably wouldn't print it.

At least with tablets if one goes bad under warrenty they just replace it.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

My wife just got a phone call from the dealership.

Apparently, Chrysler has told them to replace the transfer case. They are sure that is what the issue is now. The service guy is going to put a bunch more miles on my car this weekend and they're sure that will be the answer and we can pick it up on Monday.

At least it's something.

Why do I have this impending feeling of doom?

Clever of them to put the battery in the passenger compartment, almost like an old 60's MG. Wonder if they are also using Lucas electronics in the WKs...
