Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Chrysler should be ashamed of themselves for the treatment you've received over this lemon you took delivery of AMC...what a horror story.

Just from my couple of unpleasant discussions with Jeep customer service, and one good one, I have the feeling that they have a culture of not reporting these problems up the chain of command. I say that because I can't believe that someone in upper management wouldn't have this resolved in favor of the customer, without blinking an eye. But the low level do nothings are protecting their territory and don't know when they are in over their heads.

And I'm not even saying it's about bad publicity. Most, not all, folks who work there way toward the top, understand what Chevy has in his signature;

"Your Jeep is my job"

They need to hang posters in front of everyone who deals with customers, and if they don't get it, replace them.

Maybe it's time for a call to the local tv news consumer affairs division..I can't imagine that Chrysler would want anything to tarnish the hottest selling vehicle in their stable..sorry but this is getting out of hand and even though my jeep is not yet in my possession I wouldn't be so understanding..Good luck

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I suspect someone in Chrysler's job is in jeopardy and when that happens all gates are closed until the corporate decision is made.

Personally am amazed the corporate lawyers didn't demand the vehicle be recalled which implies they do not have the ful story. May be a lot of CYA going on.

Of couse we are making some assumptions also.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what's going on.

The dealer called my wife this morning and said "your baby's ready." So maybe they just wanted an extra day to test it out. I don't know. I told her I was about to ask him don't you think at this point Town & Country should be replacing my vehicle?

She said they don't have any power over there to do anything and I replied that at this point, they should be pushing this up the chain at the dealership because it has reached the point of total absurdity.

She asked, "would you feel comfortable telling your boss what he should do?"

I said, "absolutely, no question -- when it comes to a customer, I advocate for them all the time because it reflects on our company and I will absolutely tell him what I think the right thing to do is."

"And does he always do what you say should be done?"

"Not always, but I'm not afraid to tell him what I think should be done."

Just my sense, but in the few interactions I've had with them over there, none of them seem very empowered to do anything. My first request for a loaner when our vehicle first died on the road was met with a question -- "did you request a loaner in advance?" And then when the car broke down again and it was supposedly "fixed" again and I asked if we could keep the loaner a couple more days while I made sure the Jeep was OK (admittedly not something most dealers would do), there was a lot of stuttering on the phone, "uh, well, um, we don't, uh, ... I don't think we can, uh..." I would have like to have heard, "let me see what I can do." But that's just me. They're all nice as hell over there, so it's tough to get pissed off with them, I think it's just as I said -- no one is really empowered to do anything or wants to do anything outside their normal position of responsibility.

Anyway, it's supposedly ready. I hope it's 100%. When my wife picks it up, I will call them and ask them about what they did and why they felt this would fix it now when the other things they said would fix it, didn't.

If it works great for the next two weeks, we'll be taking it on our summer vacation trip to the White Mountains. If you don't hear from me after that, we're probably stranded on the Kancamagus somewhere without cell service. If they find the bodies, you'll all know what happened.

I hope this nightmare is finally on its way to ending.

And I STILL can't believe that after 483 replies, and over 23000 views here, Chrysler has still said NOTHING to me.

I hope they got it right. More importantly. I hope that you and your wife come to feel, over time, that this is the best vehicle you ever owned.

Thanks! I hope they got it right too. It will almost be a shame to go for Lemon status if they did, but like I said earlier -- they have had this vehicle longer than I have, and have now put more miles on it than I have. Two months of the Sirius trial have gone by... Little things, but I want the new, mostly trouble-free car I paid for. I will play the odds that lightning won't strike twice and that this very rare scenario won't play out ever again for me.

But in the meantime, I really hope we get a 100% reliable GC that we really do love until that process is finished.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

As for the long term damage, I wonder how long it's going to take me to get over the fact that Jeep is just a name being taken advantage of by a company that doesn't care about its customers. I just got an email from "Jeep Gear" and looking at the sweaters, jackets, hats, thermos bottles... I actually got a little sick. It's one thing if you're going to stand behind the name. If you're just going to prostitute it because it makes you money, well...

OK, I'm angry right now. Been sick for four days, had it with everything.

Just remember that once a company evolves from a small company to a large company, pride of the product diminishes. This goes for everything. As the product demand goes up and is met, the harder it is to "care" about every product that goes out the door. This is why I like to support the "good" small businesses locally as much as I can.

My wife's old Mazda was horrible riddled with many problems. I hated "Mazda" for it. The last straw was the a/c compressor that went out. Mazda had extended the warranty for the a/c compressor on our year CX7 from 65k miles to 70k miles but there was no recall or tsb. Our CX7 was at 72k. They would not fix it. I went up HIGH into the chain of command and still nothing. I didn't feel like I was talking to a caring company. I remembered that I wasn't talking to the proud owner who ran his own company, but rather someone who just had a job "9 to 5", "5 days a week". It's just how it is. I read a forum where someone had the exact same problem and was almost 80k on the odo. According to them, Mazda replaced all the parts (over $2k) for free. I was furious when they wouldn't even help me with the cost. That's the life we live in. I could have kept fighting it, but I was burnt out. It was the middle of the summer in Las Vegas and no A/C was taking it's toll on us. We dumped it for a Honda Accord.

Point taken. I know I'm being irrational now. I'm just tired, angry, like you were. Completely burnt out. It's amazing how much something like this can derail a part of your whole life for a few months.

That quote right there brought back memories from long ago when I still lived in Germany. The people at the service department I used at the time were always super nice, but too many times when I took my vehicle there they screwed something up or something went wrong with my car shortly after. Eventually I took my car to a different place. Guy running it wasn't as super friendly as the other place, but he knew what he was doing and the frequent problems ended. Kept that car until i moved to Canada. Friendliness does not make up for incompetence. I hope they got your GC fixed this time, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This story started April 20th, don't you meet the requirements for the lemon law yet?

Damn AMC, we need to get ourselves out of these vehicles.

I still have no Jeep, waiting to hear what they have to say about it this time. I lost count, but I think I am at 26 days of the Jeep being worked on in total.

After all of your issues, I would tell the dealer you don't feel safe in it until you have a Chrysler tech call you and walk you through why they replaced the transfer case, and what that is supposed to fix that the other "fixes" did not work on. Tell them once that happens, you will pick it up.
