I was very lucky with my 2011 summit I hope my luck holds out with the 2014 summit. The question is do I feel lucky? Lol

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

So, I am in an interesting spot.

There is a Chrysler technician that is going to drive my Jeep about 350 - 400 miles, with a machine attached to read all of the issues going on, as he drives.

After I gave him permission this morning to take it from the dealer, I got a phone call from Chrysler corporate. They filed whatever they needed to file with the business center to get me a replacement vehicle! I was very happy, until we started talking about the Chrysler tech driving my Jeep around...

Basically, if the tech comes up with an idea on what fix to try out next before my replacement is approved, they will go with the fix, give it back to me, and hope for the best.

I really just want a new vehicle now. After having this thing break down on me as often as it has, I am not going to trust the next fix. Is it wrong that at this point, I am hoping the tech can't fix it?

4 service visits, ~32 days and counting.

Absolutely not wrong! I can't believe that your car doesn't automatically qualify as a lemon. Even if they fix it, you should still get a new one.

edit: http://www.ct.gov/dcp/cwp/view.asp?a=1646&Q=276154&PM=1

Your car has been in service for over 30 days. This shouldn't even be a debate at this point.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I think between you, me, and my lawyer, we are figuring out how Chrysler works in regard to these things. This is probably why my lawyer said I would most likely need to have my car back before Chrysler responded. They probably wanted to see if they could still fix it (which, apparently, they did).

Bottom line is that if a dealer has to put 350-400 miles on your vehicle, and they have already had several attempts to fix it (over 30 days), Chrysler should ABSOLUTELY be replacing it IMMEDIATELY instead of making you wait like this. It's simple customer service, and eventually, it is also the law.

In your case especially, where the vehicle is STILL shutting down WHILE DRIVING, there should be no exception. You deserve a new vehicle. It's shameful that Chrysler is carrying on like this.

edit: DCP: All About the Lemon Law Program

Your car has been in service for over 30 days. This shouldn't even be a debate at this point.

You have a point, but here is the issue: If you read all the fine print, going through the lemon law in CT requires that my lawyer talk to Chrysler, give them a set amount of time to respond, (I forget if it is 30 or 60 days). Then after that set period of time, we file with the state attorney general, and they have another 60 days to work through the process. Then after the 60 days, they set up a hearing date, and go from there.

You are talking about a minimum of 4 months or longer to get this resolved. And once you bring lawyers into it, there is no working with Chrysler on a joint solution.

Chrysler corporate seems to have waited until I passed the 30 day limit for the lemon law, and are now moving forward with a replacement... Since I did not know that, I went ahead and told some other tech guy to have a look at it. Knowing my luck with this vehicle, somehow it will just get all fouled up even more.

I agree, but apparently from the Chrysler tech staff's point of view, I am the only one that has actually seen it shutting down while driving. The see the MIL light on, they see the error codes, so they know something is happening, but they cannot recreate any of it.

The only actual issue they witnessed themselves was when it sounded like my engine was gargling nails... and for that they replaced a broken cat converter.

If they are offering a new jeep at this point, I'd take it. If their service technician can figure out a fix, great. But let them sell the fixed jeep at auction. I've had some electrical gremlins with mine, which is frustrating, but it's not mechanical like yours which would be infuriating. Good luck

Thanks. They did not offer the replacement, if so, I would accept in a heartbeat. They simply started whatever their process is for replacements, and it has to go through some kind of approval chain. I don't know who has to approve it, but I would not want it denied because "oh, hey, we have a new idea on what to fix!"

I am just crossing my fingers that the replacement goes through, and I can move on... this whole thing is exhausting.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I really get the sense people don't understand how frustrating and exhausting the whole process is. For your sake, I hope the tech finds nothing as well. Or, I hope it shuts off (safely) in traffic while he's driving and then they can't trace what's wrong with it and everyone pushes to get you a new vehicle.

I think that would be an ideal solution.

I have been sick for two weeks with some cold/flu-type thing, and I'm sure a good deal of it was from dealing with the stress of this situation.

Our Jeep seems to be fixed (knock on wood) but that doesn't mean I'm 100% on it now. Yesterday my wife called me and said it was shifting funny and there was a green flag on the dash. Then she quickly said, "user error! -- it was in sport mode."

We're still a bit on eggshells about this thing. We keep hoping for the best, but we are still pursuing a replacement.

In your case, at least you have a reliable Grand Cherokee. While it's not the one you're paying for, at least it's not a Liberty or a Dodge Caravan. Or a Charger or some other budget-minded Chrysler product.

Hopefully they'll put those 350-400 miles on fast, the thing will die on them, and they'll get you a new one FAST.

Knock on wood, no problems so far. I'm getting the rough shifting from 1-3, but it's not enough that I'm willing to pull the battery cable yet. I'm not touching a damn thing on it while it's working fine.
