I wasn't accusing him of being dishonest, I just wanted more information than he seemed willing to give me -- what the money factor was, what the buy rate is, what their fees were...

Why can't dealers just give you the friggin numbers? I'm not playing games here. Again, I have cash in hand ready to buy and the more time that goes by, the more I think a GC isn't going to be our replacement vehicle.
From what I've experienced most dealerships don't give you those upfront most of the time when leasing but it's easy to figure those numbers out most of the time. I usually just research things first and tell them what I want numbers wise. Leasing or buying if they don't give me what I want I just thank them and move on.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

If a dealer does not want to give you those numbers, then go elsewhere. You are signing on the dotted line, agreeing to pay for those numbers, they better be telling you what they are. DO you know that the rental fee on a lease (due to the interest rate or money factor, depending on the leasing company) can be anything from $500 to $6,000 or higher on a $45K vehicle... that could change your monthly payments by almost $200 a month, for the same priced vehicle.

To cover this, sometimes they will offer a higher resale value to offset it, so your payments don't change by as much, but that will limit your options at lease turn-in.

And.... it looks like we're running.... From all new Jeep products, at least for now.

Had a chat with the wife and we are probably going with the Terrain. Yes, it's not in the same league as the GC, but with everything we went through, right now, we just can't take the chance on another GC. If we had a good dealer near us that might be something, but really, in a 30 mile radius, they all pretty much suck from what we've heard and experienced. And I think our local dealer pulling an attitude with me on the pricing just really sealed it, at least for now, if @marosenb's second bad Jeep didn't.

We won't love the Terrain like we did our Jeep (when it worked), but we are far less likely to have glitches that lots here are experiencing, and we are less likely to get another lemon.

So yes, I know it's not a Grand Cherokee, it's not in the same league, and some might consider it a POS (and I did say I'd never get another GM after they killed Saab), but for various reasons, I think we're going to get one and be a bit less ecstatic driving it, but right now, emotionally, I think it will be a better fit for us. It's mostly my wife's daily driver, and she says she can be OK with it.

It's just where we are...

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I don't think you will be too disappointed. I test drove one, and if I didn't plan on spending time on the beach, the Terrain might be what is sitting in my garage.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Thanks guys...

At the suggestion of @vnbWK2 in another thread, we will be checking out an Escape this weekend. Wouldn't look forward to "MyTouch" but I would feel better about getting a Ford than a GM because then I wouldn't have to go back on my pledge to my Saab buddies never to buy another GM automobile.

We'll see...

Man, it's going to be tough to go to ANYTHING else once you've had a taste of Uconnect. Seriously. Chrysler must be THE standard when it comes to the infotainment system (when it works properly of course)...

Lol, it is the standard, but it is coming to other things.....

No worries, small hiatus won't loose you anything!

I think you need to order your next Jeep from Kentucky. I think that's where they are sending the better ones.

So just as a coda to this whole saga, we should be releasing our GC back to Chrysler probably sometime next week. All the paperwork is done and the lawyers are supposedly cutting checks and I will have to drop the Jeep off at the dealer. To say we will miss it even through all this is an understatement. It was a remarkable vehicle with no real competition.

Its replacement is a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Limited or Touring, whichever my broker can get first in black-on-black with the features we want. We looked at a lot of vehicles and decided to go back to Subaru. The first car my wife and I bought new was a 2003 Forester XS Premium that actually cost the same amount back then. In 160K miles and two owners it never needed anything but regular maintenance. My stepson traded it in earlier this year for his new KIA Optima after it got him through high school and college.

I will miss the Uconnect most of all I think, and then the 8 speed transmission (I hate CVTs, but my wife doesn't drive manual) and then the V6 Pentastar. Going to take some getting used to the meager power of the Forester. I considered the turbo, but that 32 mpg highway is too attractive. Plus my wife says the 2.5 has plenty of power for her, and she drives our family car 90% of the time anyway.

We will see how it goes, but I guess this is me pretty much signing off this thread.

Thanks for helping to keep me sane through all the worst stuff and putting up with my venting. Really, most days, y'all were the only ones listening and helping.

Cheers.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

AMC,
Your thread was one of the very first read when I started looking at the JGC and researching via JG. It certainly opened my eyes and gave me reason to keep reading. I have the Limited on order, expected later this month, but I must admit I am still a bit apprehensive about reliability.

From Texas, we wish you and your family nothing but the best. Perhaps we will see you in the next generation of JGC. Safe travels, no matter the make and model, its always the journey that counts.
