From Texas, we wish you and your family nothing but the best. Perhaps we will see you in the next generation of JGC. Safe travels, no matter the make and model, its always the journey that counts.
Thanks! Best wishes to you as well! Always remember there are thousands of new 2014's out there running perfectly, and the remaining issues have fixes pending and ENJOY! Yes, we will probably catch you in the next redesign... Or, um, maybe a year post-redesign. :-)

Cheers, and hope your new Jeep experience is perfection....

Since your wife is going to be the primary driver, a very good alternative, imo. For me, I've pretty much narrowed down my JGC-alternative to the Outback; similar capacities and comfort, although JGC more luxurious and higher tech.

Waiting to see if Bilstein comes out with JGC shocks and if SRT springs might work w/Bilsteins. Also, waiting to see if Koni comes out with Outback shocks. For me, firming up the ride/drive of either is important enough that shock availability may be the most important question.

Will we find you on the Forester forum in the near future?

No question. There is a lot I will miss about the GC, but this decision kind of came out of left field when my wife saw it at the VW/Subaru dealer and tried it, and it all clicked and made sense to both of us, especially since we had had such a good experience with our 2003. I think I originally discounted it based on the cheap feeling interior and crappy gas mileage, the former of which has been slightly addressed in the 2014 and the latter of which has been greatly addressed in the 2014. When we first looked at them back in April, the 2014s weren't out.

Maybe ZF or Asain can come up with a nice bolt-in replacement for the CVT for me. That's what I really want.

I hope not.

As I said, it's really my wife's car. If I log in there much, it will probably mean trouble.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Slight update -- looks like there are very limited numbers of 2014 Foresters out there with Nav. My broker was unable to get one with a black interior within a few hundred miles.

So we're going with a CR-V - AWD EX-L w/Nav. Should take delivery next week.

I can't believe how low the lease payment is for a fully loaded, top-of-the-line CR-V. Nice to have sky-high residuals I guess.

A couple interesting things I didn't know until yesterday:
  • More front leg room than the GC
  • Rear leg room is a fraction of an inch smaller than the GC
  • Cargo space all seats in place is 36.3cuft in GC, 37.2cu.ft. in CR-V
  • Cargo space with seats down, 68.3cuft in GC, 70.9cuft in CR-V

How is that possible?

Big big negative is how god-awful the CR-V looks on the outside, and the cheap plastic on the inside. Otherwise, I hope it will be a trouble-free appliance for my family. And maybe we'll take a chance on another GC in three years if we don't like it and decide not to buy it at lease end. But if we end up liking it using it day-to-day, with traditional Honda reliability, we might end up buying it.

I'll post a review here after we've lived with it for a couple weeks.

Damn, I'm going to miss our GC.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

A friend of mine went from a Grand Cherokee to a CR-V. Now, her driving is to work and the mall, but she likes the CR-V as much as she liked her Jeep.

I hope the same turns out to be true for you and your wife.

On a side note, my sister told me this morning that she just bought a Prius with solar panels on the roof???

CRV is hideous lol but I thought about the space on it and you confirmed it. I've been thinking how much longer they appear so guess the cargo did get bigger. But, I'd take a Forester over the CRV. But good luck!

I wouldn't take either one but enjoy your Longterm choice and what it will provide for you.

I suspect a lot of it has to do with the height of the load floor, which is part and parcel to the size of the mechanicals underneath and the front drive based platform leading to better overall packaging.

I always thought those pencil thin rear halfshafts on the CRVs and RAVs looked so cute!
