Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

My wife just hopped down the road to pick up a prescription at CVS. She comes in with a big smile on her face, then frowns. "It's just so damn cool."

"yeah, I know"

"I mean, I really love it."

"So do I."

"It's so sad..."

"I know... You love it, you just want it to work right."

"If it wasn't so damn cool, no one would put up with this crap."

That's just it.

But at some point, it's going to be like the misguided last attempt Saab made to sell it's new 9-5.

It's going to be, "She is Not for You."

I was told the main culprit in my case was the ground that goes from the negative battery cable to the body. They removed it from the body, cleaned it, reattached it.

What I am afraid of is that all those voltage spikes that were evident from the codes did damage to other modules I'll only find out about later.

Maybe after four or five more trips to the dealer they'll have them all sorted out. Won't that be nice?

But yeah. As SOON as you get it, check those two ground locations. They will show up in a forum search.

Good luck!

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Look back at post #56. I suspect that these are all steming from the suspected power surge that took out your ABS (and caused that overvoltage code).

From that standpoint it could all be the same issue, it is just showing up in multiple places (and some codes may be hiding others). One way would be to find out exactly which grounds were found to be loose and what circuits are affected by them. That will take access to the wiring diagrams for your vehicle.

I would not blame your dealer entirely, they probably are not taught what can happen when a ground surge cascades through a system, but the CJF engineers should. Think of it as your own local EMP.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

This is my first american car also. I've had a few bimmers, a toyota, two nissans and my last car was a Mercedes. Every one of those cars i took into the dealership for warranty work never came back to me fully repaired to my satisfaction and in a few cases i got the car back damaged! I can write a book with some of the crap i've gone through with dealers. Out of all these cars the only one i can say would always "make it right" was Mercedes. BMW was OK too but in this case the dealership was known to be pretty bad so i can't fully blame BMW. Nissan was bad and Toyota wasn't great either.

The Mercedes i bought pre-owned had a few issues after the first day. The dealership was 53 miles away and each time they would send a driver to my house over an hour away with a new C class loaner. They would drop that off and take my car back to the dealership for service. The car had to go back 4 times! My service advisor was great everytime and I even got an apology in writing from the service manager. They did all the repair work and took care of the damages one of their drivers caused and never admitted to it...

It's a pretty shitty feeling when you buy a car and don't get to enjoy it. In the month that i owned that mercedes it spent more then 2 weeks at the dealer...I hope now that you got a lawyer involved they will step up and make it right. Take the jeep back and put you in a new one that will be trouble free. I have almost 1000 miles on mine and it's got a couple minor Uconnect issues that i'll have them look at when it goes in for the first oil change. Other then that i love it and hopefully they will put you in a new one so you and the family can enjoy it

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Our local Mercedes dealer does that as well. When we were looking at the GLK350, that was going to be a big, big plus -- that they take care of all service, you just go out in your driveway and use the loaner they dropped off. Perhaps someday if money isn't so much an issue.

So I pulled two codes out of the Jeep - P1B14 and P007E. I can't really find answers online, but what little I did find, the two seem totally unrelated. Does anyone know what these are? The P007E seems to be Chrysler-specific, while the P1B14 seems to be a generic OBDII code.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Hey AMC,

I wanted to mention something to you. The other day when I was swapping out my stock head light & fog light bulbs for better ones, on the passenger side you have to disconnect these two bus connectors in order to get your hand in there to replace the passenger headlight bulbs. You can't really tell from this picture...but the cheap plastic locking tab on the bus connector to the left that holds the red locking arm in the down (locked) position broke off on me...so I had to use electrical tape to hold the red arm down. Maybe this could be part or all of your problem?

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Thanks. It's at the dealer right now (I got a LOVELY Dodge Grand Caravan for a loaner). The Jeep acted fine on the hour-long trip there, no issues. The Service 4WD light is off, but thankfully I grabbed the codes last night and told the dealer what they were just in case the Jeep's self-diagnostics thought the car was OK now. Hopefully the pending codes are still there and I'm sure they have more specific tech than my measly OBDII reader.

My Chrysler rep finally called me back, but we're playing phone tag. I have sent all the service documents to my lawyer. I'm not sure how this is all going to play out, but I guess it's good to have several irons in the fire right now. I just want this all resolved. I'm beat down and just want a good vehicle for my wife to drive.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

P1B14 and P007E: I cannot find those codes in my '12 manual they may be new. In general P-powertrain 0-standard 1-CJF specific.

Did find "P007e-charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent/erratic" on the web but that seems to be for a diesel - which engine do you have ? Did not find P1B14, could it have been P1814 Transmission 4-Wheel Drive Mode Select ?

Just my opinion but I suspect you are seeing cascading failures stemming from a surge and not unconnected failures.

That said it is entirely possible that the Powertrain controller is now confused and may need to be reflashed. Have to keep in mind that power surges particularly due to ground faults are unpredictable. The Powertrain controller should be validating itself during POST but I have no insight into the actual programming.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

It's quite possible it was a P1814. I did look at it twice because I thought a B was weird there.

I have the V6.

As far as the select mode error, that would probably be it, given the error message we received.

I also agree these are all a result of the initial grounding and voltage spiking issues and mentioned that to the tech at the dealer -- that I was driving around for 300 miles with the voltage spiking like that before they found it and I wondered how much else this affected that we'll not even know about. Also wondered aloud how much longer these issues would continue and reiterated that this is the worst new car experience I could ever have imagined.

They all seem to feel really badly for me over there and are very nice every time I come in. I think they really wish they could figure it all out too, but at this point as you pointed out, I think this is all fallout from the initial issue and it might take some time to make sure all the systems are 100%. We're now on the third related issue. One more and the Lemon Law goes into effect.

I will post what my lawyer says. I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm sure Chrysler would rather swap this out now than pay my lawyer to do what looks like the inevitable.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but don't count your chickens before they hatch on this statement. Large corporations are weird sometimes and would rather lose money in court having it their way (fixing your current vehicle instead of replacing it with a new one in your case) as a way of saving face. Replacing your vehicle with another new one to them is a sign of weakness.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

Showing a "B" for an "8" might be a sign that the PCM has issues. Good coding practice either avoids possible confusion (B/8, 0/O, l/1) or makes strong distinctions (some carmakers do not use Alphas in trouble codes though A-F are hex digits). Also I have seen displays that make it hard to tell a "1" from a "7".

That is one of the things I like about Torque ($5 app for Android, use with a $20 BT dongle). I can send test results home via e-mail from either the Tablet I use for lots of things or from my smart phone & read at my leisure.

One of the things I send myself periodically is standard test #6 which is quite comprehensive and includes both current and average misfires for each cyl (have a '12 Pentastar):

MID:$a3 TID:$0b
EWMA Misfire counts (average) for last 10 drive cycles - Misfire Cylinder 2 Data
Max: 65,535 Count Min: 0 Count
Test result value: 0 Count

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

I have had a few of the same issues, check engine light came on at 100 miles.
Dealer claimed ther was no code. Told them it seemed like a ground issue. They claimed to check all ground connections. Two days later dash lights up like a xmas tree. prior to new electrical mal function, took offroad in auto mode, baely any wheel spin at all and SWRD 4WD light came on.... it's supposed to be a jeep...
Jeep corporate is nice at first, however as soon as they speak to your local dealer it seems like they just defer to whatever the dealer says.
