2014 GC Water Leaking? Getting sprayed from under? No Sunroof

I have been noticing a mildew smell the past 2 days and we have had a ton of rain so I thought possibly just wet mats from getting in and out with wet feet.

This morning I went into the trunk and noticed water beads on the carper around the storage cup under the flashlight. I took out the cup and felt around the lip of the compartment and there was water on the underside of the carpet as well.

That brings me back to a few weeks ago when I noticed the cup actually had water in it and I passed it off as someone spilling something in there by accident.

Anyone have any issues similar or suggestions on how to trouble shoot or find where its coming from.

Its as 2014 limited with no runroof.

Re: 2014 GC Water Leaking? Getting sprayed from under? No Sunroof

Maybe someone can help now with more details and pictures. I took the hose to the Jeep this morning and hoses it down from top to bottom. I then got in the cargo area and waited to see if anything was dripping.

I found water dripping from the pillar on the driver side in the cargo area right above where the cup is that is collecting the water. I pulled back the panel a bit and can see water collected at one of the tabs and also drip marks from dried water from the past.

The pics below are the best I can do. You will see I circled the standing water behind the pillar panel and also circled the old water trails. IT is coming from where above obviously. I also show where its leaking out of into the cargo area cup. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

It might pay to check the roof rails. I have had a couple of leaks in another vehicle via the screws that bolt the roof rails into the roof fixings.

I'd also check the tailgate seal is properly seated all round the top and sides - it sits over a body flange and has a sticky black sealant underneath. If you want to pull the trim back to see what is happening you'll need to take the seal off……
Also just above where your water is coming from there is a rubber grommet sealing a hole about 1" in diameter - outside the tailgate seal but behind the tailgate area. Possible that this has somehow been dislodged a bit.

As Peter mentioned it is easy to check the roof rail mount screws as well. The rail is held on by T25 Torx screws (there aren't any screws under the trim covers at either end, only the ones you can see from the top) - take these out and slide the rail forward and it will lift off. The roof is penetrated by the rivnuts and although they are blind maybe there is an issue allowing water in.

You've also posted in an older thread on this issue - Water leak in rear cargo area (not sure this is good form, and confusing)
and as posted there check the wiring grommets above the tailgate area and outside the seal.
John
