Re: 2014 GCs that have steering shimmy over 60MPH

Hi Guys

I've posted here on the steering wheel shimmy/shake and need further input.

Mines a 2015 GC Altitude V6 20" wheels and started this shake issue at 5000 now at 8600 miles and tires have been first rotated then re-balanced and on the third trip to dealer they completely inspected all steering and suspension
components and rechecked balance of wheels.

Dealer says nothing's wrong with vehicle everything solid and computer shows no code error

Anyone has any ideas problem has not got worse or better though all the dealers effort to resolve issue they say steering will react to bumps
And seems ok with both hands on steering wheel .

Help ! I'm lost on next steps

[QUOTE=vnbWK2;881910]Thanks. They road force balanced mine and adjusted the camber and toe-in. Better than before but there is still a slight vibration in the steering wheel between 60-70 mph. What's strange is that sometimes it's smooth as silk and other times there's a vibration....over the same road/highway different days same time (I.e., driving to work). I think it's the tires which will hopefully get better with a little more wear. Currently have 1800 miles on the Michelin Lattitude Tours.[/QUOTE

I'm having the EXACT same problem with my 14 Overland. In between 60-75 I get a good vibration in the wheel and some in the seat. But like you, its not every day. Some days its smooth as silk. I swapped out the Goodyear fortera tires for nitto terra grapplers and have had them balanced and road forced (with smartweight off) 4 times now and I still have vibrations. Its really driving me nuts!

That makes three of us. It was smooth today. Vibrated yesterday. ('14 Overland)

I too am sick on my 14 Overland having issues at highway speeds. I am tired of my Jeep dealer saying that's just how it is after charging me for another balancing that may . Jeep cares is working with me to resolve it but it's worrisome so many other Jeep owners have the same issue and are having trouble resolving it.

You need to go to a shop that has a Direct Drive Coats Balancer preferably with ProBalance feature, low taper collets, and adjustable pin plates. You are not experiencing RoadForce issues, you are experiencing a balance resonance issue. This happens when there are residual unbalance issues within assembly. Simply turning off SmartWeight will not fix this issue. Please check out the fix at "steering wheel shimmy anybody".

Same problem here. Shake over bumps on highway. Wants to skate across the road. Had Goodyear tires but got them warrantied. Now have Michelin. 14 grand Cherokee limited with 18's
