On the weekend I started up my 2014 Overland and went for a short drive to get a coffee. Everything was fine. After restarting my vehicle the 7" screen was dead. All surrounding gauges were also dead. Fuel showed empty etc...
I tried restarting the vehicle several times and nothing worked. I then tried operating my 8.4" touchscreen and while it was on nothing worked. It was on but the screen was unresponsive. I couldn't change the radio or access anything. I drove around for an hour and shut the vehicle off for 30 minutes. When I restarted everything was back to normal and it hasn't happened since then.
Has anyone else had similar issues? Did you have it checked out at the dealership?
I'm kinda worried now that I didn't take the extended warranty but my 2011 Overland was perfect. Never had an issue so thats why I declined the extended warranty on the 2014.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
If the system does not detect the fault after several starts the light will go out, but the fault codes should still be stored.
OP - I'm not sure if it is the same for the '11, but we are being told that on the '14 the car does not completely shut down until the driver's door is opened and closed. Did you stay in the car with the door closed for those first few restarts?
Without the codes it is hard to tell but wonder if CJF is buying their software from Microsoft. Sounds like there needs to be a RESET button somewhere.
ps still have not heard of any Laredo's with electrical problems.
One problem is not a reason to be worried about your extended Warranty choices. It could be a very small problem like grounding but your dealer needs to look at it as that is pretty major so I would expect a code was set. I personally watch a lot of threads on the radio, screens and HVAC controls. Haven't seen anything with this exact failure.
'11-'14 has Retained Accessory Power which keeps power on after the engine stops and until either a door is opened or the system times out. My 88 Buicks have that.
We have several instances reported of the dash going ded while driving. Be interesting to see if the codes are the same.
Dealership found a fault code for frozen screen however no corrective action was taken. It hasn't happened in the last week so I'm not going to worry about. At least they found the fault code and have it on record now.
Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I appreciate it.
We had the exact same problem in our '14 Overland this evening. Left the house and everything was working fine. Got back in the Jeep and dead screen and no control of the 8.4" screen. Restarted the vehicle three times and no luck on the screen. Truck is off for the evening, and will not know if it is working until some time tomorrow.
I just wanted to make sure you were aware anything that happens once with the electronics in a vehicle can be a fluke. The repeat starts may have not cleared the single occurance but I always tell people to visit thier dealer if it happens repeatedly.
The vehicle not being completely off until after opening / closing the door is the difference. I did not know that fact. The 7" EVIC screen is operational today, although I had to restore my preferred user settings. Thanks all for the help.
Earlier this week with 820 miles on my Overland my air system started to give me over heating warnings in the highway. Took it in and they couldnt find anything. Then this evening my 7in dash screen goes out along with all tach, gas and temp gauges. Immediately contacted the dealership and dropped it off before they closed so they could personally see it - also got it on video. Ill post their findings...

Ugh. Odd that when the LCD is blank, the other "gauges" all show null. Wonder if it's a connection or something? Hope they figure it out quickly for you.
Mine went dead this morning. They are not providing a rental. Other than this the jeep has been flawless through 3000miles. Awesome, fun to drive and 20mpg at 80 mph, Im happy. Hope they can sort out the issue, I would buy another in a heart beat. 2014 Overland V8
My 7" screen went dead yesterday. After shutting it down and letting it sit for 15 mins., the screen came back on. Used the vehicle a couple of times today and it worked fine. I didn't lose any personal settings when it went down yesterday. Akrenegade1, please post what your dealer discovers. Thanks.
Although posted once before, while driving if you hold down the mute and tune buttons at the same time it will reset the Uconnect. I'm not sure if this would reset the 7" screen though. Might want to try this as it has had the same effect for the problems I've had.
Update: I've driven mine about 25 miles total since reseting to factory defaults and i havent had a problem... keeping fingers crossed.
I have had the same situation with my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I have 3,600 miles on it. I have had several instances where the screen goes dead or freezes and you cannot do anything. It has always reset after turning Jeep off. I finally took it to the dealer and they did a software update but on the way home it happened again. I am headed back to dealer on Wednesday. Its very frustrating. They said they may have to check the ground wire. Does anyone know if they have to take the dash apart to do this? I really hate to think they will....seems like once you do that you end up with rattles and noise.
I just use a U$5 Android app on my smart phone with a U$20 bluetooth dongle to read trouble codes and vehicle information. You can also read the dash (sppedo, coolant temp, rpm, fuel level,...) information directly
Same story here. After the 2nd trip to dealer yesterday they are telling me they have to order a new radio and it will take about a week to get it in...so at least one more trip to the dealer. I am hopeful this will fix the problem and that will be the end of it.
It continues to go blank and freeze but works again after turning the vehicle off.
