Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Then it really isn't automatic climate control is it? Of the twenty plus cars I have had with climate control (Not an exageration)the '14 has been the only one that hasn't worked

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

I also notice my AC isn't blowing as cold as I think it should be, was thinking of bringing it in to be checked. As mentioned by a few other posters it seems when it's like 85 degrees outside it seems to blow colder then lets say 78. I haven't had this vehicle over the summer months yet and living in South FL. I am wondering how it's going to work when it gets up in the high 90's. I sure hope this isn't going to be a problem!

I have observed the same.. I haven't taken it in as of yet -- I will do so when it gets hot warm in NE... The heating and cooling in this vehicle is definitely odd.

I was curious on the temperature coming out of the vents so I stopped by the local auto parts store and picked up an AC vent thermometer. It's currently 84 degrees outside and after driving a few miles it read 40 degrees coming out of the vent. (I am on max cooling and recirculating air) I think that is well with in normal range. But I don't think it blows this cold all the time. Will keep checking to see if it's consistent.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Not sure I've ever seen such a massive thread hijack by everyone talking about their own problems with the weak AC temps and only a few people actually responding to the OP's original question. Maybe that's why it's so hard to find answers to these things in the search sometimes.

I took it to the dealership and they identified that the compressor is cycling too quickly and that the pressure was slightly low. They re-charged the A/C systerm and stated that it was fixed. The problem seemed to be fixed but after driving it for a while I noticed the same problem. I took it to the dealer for the second time and they insisted that this was normal operation. Does anybody else have this symptom? Is this normal?
Well, back to the point, the temperatures have risen and my AC has started making all kinds of re-charging noises about every 20-30 seconds while it's on. It's extremely annoying if I can hear it while the fan is on a low enough setting. This sounds like a similar problem as being described.

Exactly like Darth Vader and I'm not a fan of having him as a passenger breathing into my face with his loud gasps.

As funny as this is, yet another annoyance to bring up to the stealership whenever I take it in for the brake booster recall.

What a clustercuss. I'm trying really hard to stay happy with this Jeep, but the lack of ironing out these problems is starting to bother me and reconsider keeping it.

I've got this a/c noise too, kind of a "snorkel" (Darth Vader) sound every 20 seconds, noticeable with the fans on low (on higher speeds it's drowned out). Briefly discussed here Weird hiss when air is on with no resolution.

Super. Why am I not surprised that a dealer would probably say, "that's normal" to me too? This is getting old.

Thanks for the info and link to that thread though. I knew there had to be others who were experiencing similar issues.

Here's another relevant thread: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

Note that at the end he said that the problem was resolved after the "condensate or condenser pump" was replaced, which unfortunately apparently involves taking a major portion of the dash off... but I guess I'd rather them do it now while it's still under warranty. (Assuming they don't claim it's normal.)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Thanks for the references, JeepersCreepers. I will definitely ask them about it whenever I take it in for the brake booster fix...Trying to avoid giving them my Jeep for any extended period of time and just get it all taken care of at once.

*I hope.

Also not sure if it's related, but I've been noticing that when my AC is on and when accelerating at about 2-3K RPM, I get a whining sound that I've never heard before. Turn the AC off and it doesn't happen. Ugh.

Does yours do anything like this that you've noticed or can check for, if you don't mind?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

No problem and best of luck pinetar, that's what I plan on doing too. Be prepared for them to say it's all normal and there's nothing they can do. At the very least, even if they refuse to do anything at least it's documented so if something related to the AC dies on you after your warranty expires you might (might) have a case and be able to convince them to replace it free anyway.

I can't say I've noticed the noise you mentioned, but I will check for it next time I'm in the vehicle. At what fan speed(s) do you hear it?

I do hear a whining noise in my vehicle but it happens even when the AC is off and I believe it's coming from the power steering pump (the dealer said this noise was normal too even though it's pretty loud and noticeable when the windows are up and the fan isn't blowing).

The only other whine I think I've noticed is at somewhere around 45MPH. For some reason at speeds between like 44-46MPH the engine (or something) seems to make a bit of a faint whining noise. Dealer said this was normal as well.

It seems like the noise I'm hearing is audible at any fan speed setting, but it doesn't happen every time I accelerate. Seems like it's related to the "recharging" hiss noise. As it happens (hisses), I also speed up from 1st to 2nd gear and that's when I've heard it making a whining noise.

I've been able to let the hissing noise drown out and get over it, but if this really is related to it, I'm starting to get a little peeved. Again, this skeptical relationship with the new Jeep is a little overly taxing from a car I want to admire so much.
