Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Hi curious to know how this hissing and whinning noise has turned out after a year from your post. Noticed in the hot weather now that my 2014 JGC has both a whine and hiss. The whining im more concerned about. Pinetar described it exactly as what im experiencing.

I've been able to let the hissing noise drown out and get over it, but if this really is related to it, I'm starting to get a little peeved. Again, this skeptical relationship with the new Jeep is a little overly taxing from a car I want to admire so much.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing the same thing, but glad I'm not the only one.

I tried to have a service tech listen for the whining noise on a visit to the dealer one day, last year, and got little feedback from them about what it could be. I'm also much less concerned about the hissing...

They basically said they'd have to "start digging around" into what it would be and I have very little confidence in my local dealer service dept. So I opted to hold off and it's been fine so far this year, but I haven't had to use the AC much yet because it hasn't gotten that hot where I am yet.

Something is definitely not right though. When I did use it shortly on a trip about a month ago, it sounded/acted the same as last summer.

I'll probably have the dealer service try to fix it eventually, before it really goes to shi* and it's out of warranty.

Please keep this thread updated if you get any valuable feedback, if and whenever you have someone look into it.

Great! sort of relieved to hear at least your a/c compressor didn't fail. Similar here, I live a relatively colder climate and don't use it often and it does get cold enough that it works (at least cold for here). Time will tell if this becomes an issue but will definitely keep an eye on it and post to this thread if anything changes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Well it's somewhat reassuring that several people are experiencing the same issue. Despite having my non-main dealer look into the sound (and say it's "normal") I'm not sure I want to bring it up again with my main dealer out of fear that the fix, or attempted fix (or investigation) - which I've heard would involve taking apart the dash - would cause other issues. The sound is a bit irritating, but I think I can live with it.

On the other hand I'd hate for the AC to fail prematurely but after my warranty expires and be screwed over and forced to pay for the repair myself. I've still got a little under a year left on my warranty so we'll see what I end up doing.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

After 2 years of fighting this air conditions and dealing with a crappy dealership, I finally gave up and traded my 2014 Grand Cherokee for a Ford. My final decision came after one of the service advisers told me that there was going to be another recall and this next one would require the removal of the transmission to repair.

Recall requiring removal of the trans for repair? Really? Just a wild guess but is that the v6 trans they were talking about?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Has anyone removed their cabin a/c element, replaced the cover and then fired it up to see if the noise goes away?

Also, with it out, you can then check inside the fan and around the fan element slot to see if there is something inside?

Just a thought

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

Ha, just made a brand new thread about this same issue.

Every 5 seconds or so I hear that hissing sound which I assumed was the Ac compressor cycling.

Brought it in to Jeep and they said it's normal.

I hardly doubt it. Will keep an eye on it I suppose
