Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

thanks for the info. Let me know how it turns out and if it was the problem maybe you can post a picture and/or part # for the offending unit. That may help my reluctant dealer get started in the right direction.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

I just got off the phone with the dealership. My part is in and they are replacing it Friday. I asked specifically what they are changing and was told it is the power button and computer module - basically the computer that starts the vehicle. There is something loose inside that is causing the noise. If you still would like me to get the part number I can ask for it Friday.

My dealer said that they don't want to do anything about it unless it gets worse. They are worried about new rattles that might show up if they pulled out the dash.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

my local dealer said the same thing. It sounds like they just don't want to be bothered. I've got a lot of experience so I pulled the cluster, radio bezel and even the touchscreen(very carefully and I don't recommend it). There really isn't a lot back there which leads me in the direction of the rattle inside something else. It sounds like something that bounces around, might get stuck in one place for a bit and then gets loose again. I would appreciate that part number if it turns out to be the problem. I may have to go to the dealer that I bought the jeep from. They are 30 mi away. There's a dealer around the corner, but when I was buying, they would not match the deal. They did say that they would gladly service the jeep, but maybe there are sour grapes there. I guess their service only includes easy things...very disappointing.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

I had a similiar noise in mine that I chased for the last three months. The rattle sounded like it was coming from directly behind the instrument cluster, but only happened at highway speeds. Turns out that the noise was actually coming from the plastic water line running to the drivers side windshield spray nozzle. I simply zip tied the line to the hood hinge on the drivers side and the noise vanished.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

thanks for all the input. I'm on my way to the dealer where I bought the jeep. They expressed a real interest in helping me out, so I'm optimistic. Mine's more of a low speed vibration driven noise. When the transmission shifts and the engine goes through a certain RPM range it's most evident. It's a mini version of what you see in big trucks when they shift while under a load. It's good to see that I'm not alone in trying to get rid of noises like that. My wife says she can't hear anything and I'm crazy....'course she'd drive her Subaru unfazed if she had four flats.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

I am at the dealer right now getting the power button module changed. To be as specific as possible he said he tracked down the noise to the spring that is behind the push button. It is loose and causes intermittent vibration noise. Makes sense as this is what I keep hearing. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the cause and the new unit doesn't do this.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

good for you! I hope that solves your problem. I'm still waiting. My dealer got my appointment for Fri mixed up and couldn't spend much time on it. I'm going back Wed for another try. I am also going to ask if they can do anything about the clock running slow. I've heard that is a symptom of other problems and requires some software updates. I also got some unexpected relief from my noise by accident. After reading some threads about the eco mode, I decided to try running with it off. I had never done this because I figured Chrysler new best....wrong! It actually drives and accelerates way better with eco off. I don't put a lot of miles on in a year so MPG isn't critical. The noise was triggered when the trans shifted under a load. In non-eco the transmission holds shifts longer and doesn't make the engine lug which in turn eliminated the vibration frequency causing the noise. It didn't make the source go away, but it eliminated, for the most parts the trigger. not 100%, but much better.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

Now that I'm thinking about it , it's too bad that for the sake of fuel economy a car manufacturer would design a system that does something that I always regarded as very bad for a driveline, namely, always lugging it. This almost certainly guarantees a failure down the road, hopefully for them after warranty time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Dash noise

I have the same rattling problem. only when i make a slow left with acceleration.

Its at the dealer right now for the second time. The first time they said it was the transmission coolant lines rubbing on the body and vibrating they also said i screw was missing. LIES....... As soon as i drive off the sound was there... ill keep you guys posted once i get i back.
