Question 2014 Grand Cherokee - Hard Shifts

In July 2013 I purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland and have absolutely loved driving the car until a few weeks back. I was aware there were complaints about noticeably hard shifts in the lower gears when up-shifting and down shifting (gears 1 through 3); however, mine had showed no indication this problem. That was until I took it in for its 1st service... The dealer informed me that in addition to the Recall (reprogram instrument cluster) that he would also be performing the "RRT 13-006/ Flash Transmission and Transfer Case Shift Enhancements". I told him that the transmission was shifting just fine no need to perform but he insisted that it must be done so I agreed. Now, the car shifts very hard at times from 1to2 & 2to3 when accelerating and same gears when decelerating. Also, it will occasionally hang on to 2nd gear far longer than one would normally expect. So finally to my question - has anyone experienced this same scenario? What (if any) was the resolution?

Thanks

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Hard Shifts

Exact same issue as you described in your post. I have a '14 Limited Diesel with build date 04/13.
Perfect shifting before the update was done.. Now it is just like you described.
There is a bulletin out for the Tech to do. They failed it on my Jeep and want to try again in 2 weeks.
It has something to do with the "learning" process of the Automatic shifting system.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Hard Shifts

Yea, I should have done a little looking before posting the thread as it is all over the place. Have taken to the dealership and had the tranny reflashed but is a bit hit and miss. Also tried the disconnect the battery as well but that did absolutely nothing. I am probably putting a massive hex on myself but it has actually been much more tolerable the past few weeks (probably the temp change down in South GA). Regardless, now I have arguably the most annoying "clicking" sound coming from the driver seat when going over undulations in the road. It is actually driving me nuts and of course the dealer can't replicate and can't seem to find an issue. I have even played a video recording for them but of course to no avail. And to make things even better, the blower on the AC stopped working for some reason for a few hours last week when it was in the upper 90s - and of course the dealer has no idea what caused. So any way, as soon as I pay it off, it's gone and will not be buying another Jeep/Chrysler product ever again. I should have just bought the BMW X5 from the start and dealt with the $500 oil changes. Good luck to you, wish I had better advice

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Hard Shifts

Mine shifted very good when new (Aug 2013 build), picked up Oct 22 2013, but now it shifts like a bus. Unfortunately, I had the update to the tranny from December. It really got bad once I started towing a 4500# boat/trailer combo. Has anyone had the re-learn process stick? At this point, I'd take the old 5 speed in the 13s vs. this little demon. I'm amazed every time I take my wife's 2012 Durango V6 for a ride. It seems more luxurious every time I drive it compared to the direction the Jeep is taking lately.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Hard Shifts

The only trans shifting problem I've had was a significant delay in getting back into 8th after a climb that dropped it down to 6th or 7th.

This was quite some time ago and they did flash the trans which solved that problem.

I've noticed in the last several days that I'm finally starting to get the hard 2-1 downshifts and 2-3 upshifts that many are complaining about. I'll have to mention that to the dealer the next time I take it in for an oil change.
