Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Electronics Problem

I am SO glad I found this thread on the forum. Now I know I'm not crazy...or cursed. ;-)

I encountered the same problem this morning & freaked out. I started my GC & was welcomed by an Airbag Service Message followed by an ABS Service Message and accompanied by solid warning lamps for Airbag, ABS, TCS, Engine & Parking Brake...all at 1578 miles (4 weeks).

I hit the ASSIST button right away, and they dispatched Roadside Assistance to tow it to the nearest dealer. They didn't want me to drive it because of the safety systems involved. The dealer has it now, and I'll be curious what they have to say since the Service Adviser seemed stunned when I dropped it off.

I'll let you know what they identify as the cause and the fix. Thanks again to everyone for sharing their experiences.

That must have triggered some error codes, it would be interesting to know what they were.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Electronics Problem

I'll just chime in for fun. I've had my 2014 Limited for just over a month now. Came out from work one day and had the same issue. Only had like 150 on the odometer. Shut off and restarted a couple of times. No good. Decided to drive it home and take to dealership the next day. Got frustrated with no speedo halfway home and pulled in a grocery store parking lot. Unhooked ground from battery and went shopping. Came back and reconnected, no further issues SO FAR. 1200 and change on the odometer now.

The keyfob liftgate problem needing 4 clicks instead of 2 to open/close is becoming a nightmare on how to fix it. Chrysler Star techs don't have a clue as to a cure.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Electronics Problem

I had the Christmas Tree effect appear on my 2014 Overland after 7000 miles. One of the modules (ABS I think) stop communicating. Took two days to get the replacement part in ... all fine after that. When you start getting warning after warning flashing out of nowhere. you start feeling that you are counting down to the final explosion.

You are supposed to hit the button a couple of times.

Mostly there are some minor glitches that you can treat as an inconvenience until they get them fixed. Or, you can treat them like it's the end of the world and get yourself all worked up over it. If you go that route, only you will suffer.

I would have preferred that Jeep got the bugs out first, rather than having the early release of a buggy 2014. I would most likely be happily driving a 2013.

I got my GC back. The dealer identified the ABS Module as the culprit, and they were able to expedite a replacement part. All seems to be okay again. I'm just glad to have it back, and it only took 3 days. (They originally told me it could take 2 weeks)

As for the Error Codes, here is what the technician wrote up:

PCM U1417 - Implausible Left Wheel Distance Signal
PCM U1418 - Implausible Right Wheel Distance Signal
PCM U1412 - Implausible Vehicle Speed
PCM U0416 - Implausible Data from ESP
PCM P1C4E - ABS DTC present
TCM U1412.00 - Implausible Vehicle Speed
EPS U1415.00 - Implausible Data from ABS
ORC U1110.00 - Lost Vehicle Speed
AFLS U0121.00 - Loss of Comm ABS
PTS U0418.00 - Implausible Data from Front Brake Control Module

Sorry if the descriptions may be off; I had to translate his writing from the Repair Order since my Service Receipt only included a few of them.

My 2014 Overland has been in service for over a week now. At about 475 miles, I got the "Christmas Lights" on the instrument cluster. (It happened when I started the car to drive to the dealer to fix the Uconnect and QuadraLift issues I was having.) The dealer's service guys are working with Chrysler technicians. They say a faulty ABS module caused all of the other lights to message. Since several other people on this forum have said they also need a new ABS module, it sounds like they are narrowing the problem down to that. The problem is that no modules are available. The original delivery date for a new module was given as July 16. They are trying to expedite it (maybe take one off of the assembly line) but if they don't, my car will have been in service for about a month.

I will note that both Chrysler and the dealer's service center have been keeping in touch and not ignoring my calls when I ask for status reports. I told them that since I purchased the car, they have had it longer than I have. Chrysler has picked up the cost of the loaner. (It is a 200, I hate it, and will be swapping for a Grand Cherokee today.) There may be other things to ensure customer satisfaction when this is over. At first, I was extremely upset but I have calmed down. In the short time I had driving my own car, I was very happy with how it drove and how nice it looked. In the end, I hope to have that same feeling with a car that works and hopefully these early model issues will have all been resolved.

I wonder if there will be a recall for the ABS modules if there are so many failures. I realize that only a small percentage of all MY14 owners are complaining about the christmas lights issue, but since it is happening at random points on the odometer (some people at hundreds of miles, others at thousands), there may be some out there who just haven't experienced it yet and a lot of people who just don't go on forums like this one to report issues. Might explain why there are no available replacement modules right now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited Electronics Problem

nomorecars,
I had my e-brake abs and airbag lights on plus no speedometer at about 250 miles. drove home only a couple miles and let sit for 1/2 hour. Came out restarted MIL light on only, this was a saturday, made appt. for tuesday on my last couple of startups grey and black smoke. They agreed to tow it in. Dealer checked, showed abs module bad, louse grounds. 3 weeks wait for part abs module.

There will not likely be a recall for this as the system is warning people of the failure. The Christmas tree of lights is actually the report of all the associated failures. A recall would happen if it was having an issue and not reporting therefore putting the occupants in danger.

I am sorry to hear you needed to go through this but hopefully it is painless afterwards. From reading your entire posts, it sounds to me like you have a good dealer that is putting in a good effort to make sure you are happy and that is important. There will always be these occational issues and it is often related to a sub supplier and a faulty component.

Now saying that the reasons for the long wait times, is once the problem is located, the grouping of that part may have been eliminated from the parts supply chain or taken for testing and verification. Hence why you may get a production piece. Most people I have seen are getting their replacement before the promise time and as you have a good dealer he is probably calling in on a regular basis to get status updates themselves.

Good Luck and hopefully you are on the road again soon my friend.
