Yes! Whenever engine comes under load I see an increase in coolant temperature always. (Not Towing)
Towing the van (2300kg empty) on a moderate climb just under 90kph, temp goes to 3/4 white line (below red arc), transmission temp. around 96deg C, engine is doing it easy. Vehicle in Drive, 1800rpm indicated (7th I think) and have to reduce speed below 80kph to keep engine temp at a reasonable indication. Soon as I lift my foot the rpm comes back to approx. 1400rpm changes into 8th and temp reduces. Used to tow this van with my 2007 WH GC 4.7 up same hill, never looked like overheating and on lot hotter days.

Not sure mine is too high or not. Without towing:
1) On highway cruise, speed 95km, transmission oil temp is 93 Celsius, engine oil temp 98 Celsius.
2) On moderate climbing, speed 85km, transmission oil temp is 96 Celsius, engine oil temp 108 Celsius.

Sorry, on climbing, average speed 60km.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Had our first non software problem today. Picked car up from dealer after having tow bar installed. Got home, foot on park brake, it goes straight to the floor with no resistance.

A quick look, seems the cable has come off the foot pedal assembly , will see what they say when I take it back. I'm not going to play with it.

Glen.

Don't tow in 'Drive' - you risk 'lugging' - you will get best performance using 'Sport' mode and staying in 6th gear rather than using 7th & 8th

"mmcrh" My oil temp seems to stay around the 100 - 105deg C mark, I think your figures appear normal too. Have had a SCAN tool on vehicle whilst driving, when warmed up transmission temp seems to reflect water coolant temp. With both Coolant and Tranny temps showing around 93deg I put the vehicle under load and the coolant temp rises rapidly, the tranny temp follows slightly but only goes up a few degrees.

Re the coolant temp mine too raises quickly to 3/4. Yesterday I was towing my 2ton van up a long hill (Out of Kangaroo Valley) and the temp went up and I thought bugger it and kept pushing her. She didn't go any further than 3/4. So I don't think there is an issue.

Thanks for the info, I agree however I have tried this but bringing the engine RPM up only made the situation worse. The vehicle really has no problem pulling the van and wasn't shifting between gears and would even go into 8th. This is not a major hill climb and I was 1700kg below it's max tow weight and it wasn't a hot day.

That's fine, I just a OBD11 plug-in devise that reads all the engine outputs thru the diagnostic plug on the lower right hand side of the dash.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Yeah, don't use Sport mode, it will simply keep it revving higher longer than required at all times. You will wan't this sometimes, but not all of the time.

Automatic Transmission
The DRIVE range can be selected when towing. The transmission controls include a strategy to avoid frequent shifting when towing. However, if frequent shifting does occur while in DRIVE, you can use the Paddle Shift switches to manually select a lower gear.

NOTE: Using a lower gear while operating the vehicle under heavy loading conditions, will improve perfor- mance and extend transmission life by reducing exces- sive shifting and heat buildup. This action will also provide better engine braking.
Paddle Shift Mode

• When using the Paddle Shift switches, select the highest gear that allows for adequate performance and avoids frequent downshifts. For example, choose “5” if the desired speed can be maintained. Choose “4” or “3” if needed to maintain the desired speed.

• To prevent excess heat generation, avoid continuous driving at high RPM. Reduce vehicle speed as neces- sary to avoid extended driving at high RPM. Return to a higher gear or vehicle speed when grade and road conditions allow.
