But lack of spares are giving them a bad name that will ultimately only hurt the brand. The insurance company was already aware of parts supply problems from Jeep. Will try and get sump repaired by insurance company. This problem brought to light another problem with these new high tech vehicles. With no oil in engine unable to start to put in neutral but you can not turn the engine off in neutral anyway. So that was no help to the situation anyway. There most be a manual over ride somewhere but not mentioned in manual. Also lack of front recovery point is a problem. The flatbed tow truck driver was aware of the lightweight recovery eye in with the spare tyre but did not know how to remove the panel on front bar to get access.
This justifies my expense on the bash plate I've installed from Chief Products. Hopefully this will elevate any of these situations.

Read your owners manual again, see the section - STARTING AND OPERATING - Shifting Into NEUTRAL (N)
Page numbers will be different to what you see below as this is the US manual 7th edition.

WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCIES - MANUAL PARK RELEASE

....etc....

Thanks Snuke I hope this helps someone else down the track.

I was obviously looking in the wrong section...Towing

The ball point pen method for neutral would not have worked as it required the engine running.

Thought there would have to be a manual over ride some where.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Once again at the start of the day there were two issues:

1. Cruise Control and Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning - same issue, refused to work giving me the same error message.

2. Received error message on startup to get the air suspension serviced.

This time I shut the car down three times and on the 4th startup all worked properly again.

This is getting boring and annoying.. Is there not an opportunity to do a software reinstall?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Point 1 sounds like your FCW sensor could be a problem. Take a photo or provide the exact wording... I know that Wade has seen the message that results from a disconnected FCW sensor just a few times and I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you whether it's the same. This could be a lead.

That said, you sound convinced that it's software. Can you advise why so?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

As far as reinstalling software, maybe just reboot the whole data bus by leaving the battery disconnected for half an hour (or more to be sure).

If there is no fault once you get a "good start cycle", maybe these messages are from a CAN Bus data error or something like that?

Worth pulling the negative terminal to see if it helps.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Thanks for the response.
I think it's software because of the intermittent nature of the problem. A hardware problem should replicate readily, but this one does not. Same for the Air Suspension warning. I will take photos next occurrence and post them.

Good point about the battery. I will do that now.

Regards

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Another thing, are the two errors always received together? Have you ever received just one or the other?

This would also be a valuable guide to diagnosis.

Cheers,
Steve

It happened again just now when I went out into the garage. How do I post images from my computer into this text please?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

To be honest, I find it easiest using Tapatalk on my mobile. Otherwise I use my Photobucket and similar services.

That said, I'm sure I read Snuke set up a Photobucket account that apparently anyone can email a picture to. You then get emailed a link back which you can paste into your post. He mentioned it in a post just over the last few days.

Had a search... here it is:
JEEPGC14.85308@uploads.photobucket.com

Just email your pictures there and see what comes back.

Cheers,
Steve
