I wonder if the controls go via some kind of module. Maybe the module has a problem, that is if there is one.

I'm thinking it is a software issue - it's too systematic to be a wire / component issue. I provide feedback once I have visited the dealer.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Been to the dealer with this one.
As expected, the dealer tested and reflashed and poked and prodded and all came up well. Then they handed it back to me only to have the error recreate itself on next startup while still at the dealers...
Dealer went back to work and further checking, poking and prodding suggests module is at fault and has been ordered.
It will be installed next week so we will wait and see.

Did all the other functions fail too - handsfree, and horn? Effectively I am now driving around an unroadworthy vehicle.

Went to the dealer today and found problem to be a faulty clock spring. New one ordered for installation on Thursday.

Steering wheel pass through. It connects the switchgear of the rotating steering wheel to the stationary steering column.

Cheers,

Ah OK, thanks.
Can't see how that could connect anything electrical though...
I though they used slip-rings with tensioned contacts but then there's so many buttons on a wheel these days...
Probably done digitally with just a couple of contacts and BUS addressing?

He' having a lend of you - that is one type of clockspring used as it's name implies, but pictured below is what is located behind the steering wheel. The wiring structure is somewhat similar in concept - hence the name.
