If Airbus had this kind of problem, there would be hundreds of aircraft dropping from the skies. That doesn't happen because they have built-in quality systems.

So it's entirely possible to manage out issues like this. Not only is it entirely possible, but it's the expectation, especially when you pay $80,000+ for a new vehicle. It is unacceptable to have this kind of fault rate, and Fiat must be looking at the problem very closely.
linking automotive and aeronautical quality together is a bit of a long bow.

After 15000 hours flying experience I won't fly on a French Chainsaw (Airbus). If it's not Boeing, I'm not going.

I believe from what I read that the glow-plugs on these vehicles somehow re-schedule the fuel when ON during start and when warming up, so maybe that's the link. Unfortunately Jeep know what emission tweaks they did to get this engine up to specifications other than running it hotter. Being serviced Thursday hopefully all will be good again.
Back from service. No faults recorded even with the rough running and lack of power when the Clatter cycle is extreme. Interesting thing is they are indicating that my fuel is the issue. Only use Caltex or Shell around town. So are our fuels too low in sulphur for this 2014 diesel?
This being the case. I noticed that a diesel fuel additive was on my service sheet and the engine does now sound normal.
So are you Diesel Jeepers using additives on a regular basis?
A/C seems OK with latest (#4) update, time will tell.

Never used an additive ever. Never had a fuel problem either, other than water in fuel which filled up filter rather quickly. I have avoided that station and never had a problem since.

Thanks IBJ. Seems the additive they put in has resolved the clatter to normal and the major excessive clatter on restart has not re-occurred either. JA have informed me that fuel additives are OK as long as it's MOPAR? They advised that it's mainly for water ingress into fuel systems, reducing corrosion and bacteria but also cleaning injectors. Have not had a DPF issue with this vehicle (19000km). It appears that it's the CETANE rating of the fuel here that is the issue. See that Toyota have issues with low cetane fuels also causing diesel clatter. Once this tank full has gone will refill, no additive, and see what happens. A/C update back to the drawing board!

Hi All
Recently have had the "Detonation Hot Fix" applied, which has made a huge difference to the vehicle, almost like new again. Hopefully this lasts this time, really tired of returning to the dealer to reset the fuel system. I will try and provide updates on the long term progress of the Hot Fix. I have been informed that this fix will be available as a TSB once Jeep have confirmed that all the updates within the Hot Fix are confirmed to fix all the known related issues.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Hi All,
I've had the 10,000Km service done and all updates done as well. I had the air con on low today then switched driver's side up to 16 deg and had very hot air blowing for 10-15 sec. Not pleasant! I've told the dealer about this after I had it in to get the towing wiring checked. It works ok when the techs look a tit but of course not when I use it. Also the radio will suddenly not turn on when the car is started. I have to restart for it to work.

Any suggestions for the aircon given it's coming into summer?

Yepp! Mines being doing it since the January update and subsequent. It was OK from new but that Jan.update stuffed it. Have had the latest update for A/C and as per previous post yet another failure by Jeep.
However to manage it I have found that adjusting the temp control in 1deg increments, allowing a few second breaks (20) between selection allows it time to sort itself out or at least become manageable. More than 2deg either side, up or down temp selection throughs mine into chaos. The temp control seems to chase outside air temp rather than the cabin temp. Who knows? Since the latest update I leave it on 20deg, let it have it's moment then adjust slowly as required, 20deg can be warm air or cold and on other days its fine. JEEP Climate Change? Have spoken to service manager, they seem to know that it is still an ongoing problem. They have adjusted the blend doors previously as the temp issue is most noticeable on the passenger side when it has it's moment without success or any improvement.
