Yes, that seems excessive, this Allpar article about the trans says

"The list price for this transmission, in December 2012, was $3,935 (this is what most dealers are likely to charge ordinary customers). Via a discount on-line dealer, the range was around $2,950 to $3,550 plus shipping."

Thanks Snuke, that certainly appears to be a lot more realistic. Maybe the dealer was seeing an extra digit in the quote that wasn't there... Either that or I'm getting an entirely new driveline!

Interesting, thanks diggum. Is your Laredo a diesel?

Nopes, v6 petrol. They changed the transmission , and she does hold the first 5 gears for long (when cold) but the jarring changes are now a thing of the past

Its sad though with all this publicity comes the devaluation of our cars, I'm not denying the fact that FCA really screwed ALL owners (be that manufactured 2013/2015) but those who have persevered and fixed our cars shouldn't be penalised for the "wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot long pole, mate""

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia - default tyre alignment to US camber.

I just replaced the OEM tyres on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Some interesting comments from the tyre shop and it makes you wonder how widespread this is.

Since I got it, the Jeep has consistently pulled to the left slightly. I didn't think much of this, and it has been through a couple of services at the Jeep service centre and has always been the same afterwards.

So when I got some new KL61 tyres fitted, they asked - have you had a tyre alignment done since you bought the car? The reason he asked was that the alignment was set for US roads (opposite camber). This explains why it always pulled to the left slightly, but more importantly, this also explains the unusual wear pattern and the fact that the tyres wore out faster than they should have.

The question is - was this unique to 2014 GCs, or is it an ongoing problem that people should be aware of, and organise to get a wheel alignment early in the piece.

I still find it strange that the dealer/service centre would have rotated the tyres without noticing the unusual wear pattern.

- I should have probably done something about the misalignment earlier, but given all the more pressing issues, I was glad to get everything else sorted out at the time.

At least everything seems to be fine now.

2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Thanks for posting this, it's piqued my interest in why mine pulls left so much. Because I've got BFG AT's and OME lift installed, the dealer wasn't interested when I mentioned it last. Since getting the lift put in, my wheels have been aligned no less than 5 times at a local tyre shop, yet it still pulls quite willingly to the left. Makes me wonder if the tyre place even had the correct settings on hand? I'd be interested to know the correct alignment specs for the Aus version of anyone can point me to it, I've got the alignment job sheets here but had nothing to compare to.

Cheers, Simon

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

Had the same problem, dealer couldn't fix it. Took the GC to a steering specialist he found it needed major camber and castor adjustment, cost $160 but problem fixed, tracks perfectly now.

Well, I'll try to attach the Vehicle alignment report. I've left the Tyre Shop web page on there. (They are in Brisbane). I was impressed with the fact that they changed out all four tyres in less than an hour and did a four wheel alignment for $50. The tyre price was excellent too.

The only other comment they made was that they often found this issue with Jeeps.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Problems - Australia

This leads back to one of our favourite dealer comments that it is a safety feature. That way of you lose control you don’t cross the road into oncoming traffic, instead to veer off the road into a light pole, house, child care centre (insert other emotional exploitative places to hammer home my point).
The actual result is, the dealers are morons that don’t have the ability to fix, and don’t have common sense to say it is a long known issue (I have never had it) and that a tyre specialist will be the best place to fix it.
