2014 Grand Cherokee Summit issues!

I bought a new GC Summit on 3-8-13 and it had issues. The 8.4 AN radio interface would not save many of the settings for the lights / park sense system / auto dimming interior dash lights etc. Sometimes entire options on the pages would be there one time when you went into it and then not be there the next time you checked. Some things that I would "check" (or select) to be on, would then 5 seconds later, uncheck themselves as you watched. The salesman confirmed all of my issues and the service manager got involved. They contacted Chrysler and they have no answer. They swapped another radio from another one they had that seemed to work better But when it was put in my car, it acted up the same way. The dealer unwound my deal and gave me another car after about 10 days. Now I just got the new one yesterday, and its doing very similar things! I have to think others are having these issues.

I have a 14 Overland and I have not noticed it doing those things unchecking boxes or anything, but I did have one time where I think the heated seat and steering wheel were on when it indicated it was off. The other thing I have had happen a few times is when I open the door the interior lights take about 5 seconds to pop on. The interior lights are fade on lights and they normally do but once in a while they skip the fade on and just come on at full brightness after 5 seconds. I think these are software bugs that will probably be corrected with a tsb.

I picked up my new Summit 3/16 and haven't had any uConnect or lighting issues, but does anyone else find the seat bottom cushion to be a tad uncomfortable? I'm not big in the rear at all but it seems narrow to me. Dumb question for jp467, but in the setup did you un-check the automatic steering wheel heat/heated seat on box? Mine was on when I picked it up from the dealer until I noticed it and turned it off. It didn't show as "on" on the main screen.

It sounds like he is a troll for Ford - these sound like the epidemic of electronic issues that plague Exploders and other lower forms of auto-life :)

Can you say My Ford Touch?????

I havent been able to drive mine enough to know whether the seat bottom is uncomfortable. My wife and I have several other cars to drive until Jeep sorts this out i.e. 2006 Cadillac DTS, 2008 VW R32, 2008 Toyota Sequoia Platinum, 2010 Porsche 911 4S, a couple of misc old cars and, oh yea one Ford, my wife's 2012 Mustang GT convertible............and I'm a "troll for Ford"?????? Chrysler needs to sort things out before they come to market. I hear this same system in the 2013 Ram is having the same issues. I love my Grand Cherokee Summit but the last time I took a chance on a Grand Cherokee was 2001 and I only owned it 3 months and I had to have first its front axle rebuilt, then the rear axle, then they had to replace the transmission. I lost $6000 on it and traded it in on a first model year Toyota Sequoia built in a new plant in Illinois and after 12 years and 190,000 miles, my teenage is still driving it. And I haven't spent $500 on repairs, only normal wear and tear like tires and brakes. I live in metro Detroit and have 4 of my wife's relatives that work for Chrysler. And trying to buy "American" but its a little frustrating.

Maybe this is why so many other Jeeps havent shipped yet, they may be trying to get them fixed before they're delivered...

I've had one problem with my 8.4AN. While on a long trip, I hit the call button to send a voice text. When it tried addressing the text to someone other than who I intended, I hit cancel and somehow freaked it out. All audio went to mute and all updating apps, such as weather map and fuel prices, stopped updating. Once I finally reached my destination and turned the car off for five minutes or so, everything reset and was back to normal.

I'm thankful that it reset, but I don't want to have to be pulling over on the highway for 5 minute stops every now and then to let my temperamental unit reset. Hope that was a one time deal.

Man ... maybe I should have waited with ordering my jeep. Do you guys know if you can update UCONNECT software yourself or every time they patch something up you have to make a trip to nearest dealer.

I know that you can update maps via USB at least on previous versions.

2014 Summit: Anyone knows any trick to turn the Uconnect 8.4 screen completely off? (Pressing the button to turn it off keeps the screen slightly backlit with the message Touch to Turn Back On). This ruins the mode of night driving. (dimming only helps partially).

In the 2013 Summit I can simply turn it off by pressing the volume knob and everything goes dark and beautiful.

Black background with grey lettering.

The problem is that the black is not black, just faintly backlit. It does spoil the mood bit driving at night.

The screen off button should turn the screen completely off. You can tap it again to turn it on.

Hope they fix this soon.
Keep your eyes on the road!

I just bought a 2014 Overland about a week ago... It has been in the shop twice now because of issues. The radio has a mind of its own. Yesterday she didn’t want to start. Last weekend the backup camera didn’t work. The car is not giving any error code to the dealer so now I am having to record when the jeep is acting up for the dealer to believe me. I have about had it with the overland. I contacted Chrysler yesterday to get these issues expedited. I drove her for two days and she left me stranded on the side of the rode because the radio decided to turn all the way up and blow the heat on 90... I couldn’t do anything to the jeep. I pulled over opened the door and turned her off but she didn’t want to turn off herself... So I got the hell out and called the dealer. Towed her in... Called me two days later. Truck was fine. I have no idea what to do. It’s something new every other day.

I am having loads of issues with my Overland with only 500 miles. Uconnect being one of the big things. I have spoken to over five people at jeep and uconnect and no one can give me a straight answer. I had no issues with my 2011 Overland and right now I wish I could trade it back. For those people thinking of buying a 2014 wait a couple of months, I wish I had now, there are just way too many issues.
I have read a lot of these forums and am astounded that so many are having the same issues as me. These vehicles were supposed to turn Chrysler around and the 2011 did but these 2014 are going to put a black eye on them all over again. I have owned jeeps for over 18 years, I have never had so many issues before and its getting very aggravating.

I called jeep today checking on my ordered summit(scheduled to be produced 3/8 but no movement yet) I asked about the unconnect issue and was told that they are aware of the issue. The representative told me that if you have an iPhone, iPhones have some kind of security measure that locks out. She said it is not an issue with uconnect but with the Apple software. I hope either way I do not have issues. My iPhone is at version 6.1.3 and they are good with 6.0. Her recommendation was not update my iPhone anymore. Not my idea of a solution

For 47k for a new summit, i would hope that when mine comes these issues will be resolved. almost bought a 4runner but liked the options on the jeep gc summit

I am hoping that is why mine has been stopped in the Production Sceduled stage for the last three weeks. I'm hoping they are working out the kinks!

Oh ok...yours haven't even begun to be built yet. If you were a level 3 site supporter, Milous could track it for you. They only update the VOTS page once a day.
