Re: 2014 issues

I'm read about Uconnect. Will we be able to update the software ourselves for the 8.4n system, or will we have to go to the dealer?

The link above says" The UConnect system is now able to get application updates over the air; and owners can download updates or new applications directly, via the 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Original is at 2013 UConnect 2: the next generation 2013 UConnect 2: the next generation

Re: 2014 issues

The nav runs QNX, not blackberry OS. It's the underpinnings of BB10 but it's not the same. It'd be like saying that a Linux device is running Android OS.

I was expecting that. As long as there will be no major mechanical issues I can deal with software updates. Now as they partnered with Sprint they should really have ability to do Over The Air programming.

Re: 2014 issues

This forum is just awesome. Funny that this is posted today, as we drove our 2014 Overland ~800 miles from Northern Calif. to Arizona today (800 of the first 1100 miles) and also had several UConnect issues. Each problem forced us to pull over, turn off the car, wait 30+ seconds, and restart the car to 'reboot'.

Here's what happened (each safely performed from the passenger seat!):
1) when connecting an iphone via usb (with a SD card in the slot!) the 'button bar' disappeared on the screen, leaving the system 'trapped' in nav mode. The hard buttons for the climate system and stereo still worked, however. The hard 'turn off screen' and 'back' buttons did not. The SD card had a video file on it, so I've since removed it (thanks @emsrescue)

2) In the Nav settings, when changing the icon for our vehicle, the whole screen went blank. I do not recall if the hard buttons worked - we were frustrated and just pulled off at the next exit.

3) After switching bluetooth from my wife's phone to mine, so I could stream music through the speakers, the audio from my phone could not be heard. At the same time, I put on my seat heater. About 10 mins after that, the seat heater and climate controls on the screen would not work. The hard buttons all still worked in this case.... but my butt was sweating until we got to our destination!

Also - since we got the Jeep, in the audio settings, the 'Surround' feature, when switched to 'off', goes right back to 'on' after ~5 seconds

I understand that, as early adopters, we are 'beta' testers of sorts for the software, but it's still a little frustrating.

@SnoFire: The UConnectr site said there are no updates available for me. However, I'm hopeful from what I'm reading here that the that update comes before our drive home next week!

Does anyone know how to 'reboot' the uconnect while the vehicle is moving? Pulling over, turning off car is not convenient!

Re: 2014 issues

While these Forums are fantastic for all of us to commiserate (thank you Jeep garage) I spoke to both the engineers at uconnect and at Jeep they say that they need to get the phone calls to start realizing these issues are global. They need to hear from you and you must log an incident number. THIS WILL HELP US ALL!
For those people on a trip, hit the access button on your mirror to contact Jeep directly or use the Jeep phone number in your manual. BUT PLEASE CALL.
Unfortunately a single person like me calling about all the problems does not grab the attention of all of you calling and generating call numbers and incident tags on specific issues.
The more people that call the FASTER we will get updates and the more you have a person and a number for someone to own the problem.

Re: 2014 issues

But some these items are not real glitches but rather intended functionality. Like the transmission sluggishness' in ECO MODE. Or turning off the engine and losing the screen and sound. Maybe the car was not in Accessories mode and it assumed you were leaving thus turning stuff off to save battery.

I cannot really read white text.
