2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

I purchased a new 2014 Overland V6 new last year and due to the amount of issues and so far the inability of the dealership to fix some of them I'm left wondering what to do. I have had more issues with this Jeep than my last four new cars combined in just the first 11 months and some still exist. My Dealer is courteous and doesn't brush me off but if there is no fix from Chrysler or they can't replicate the issue it goes unfixed and I am wondering what others have done in my situation -

I sent the dealership service manager an email yesterday detailing all the unfixed issues below but am wondering if I should escalate to Chrysler corporate or even review lemon law (some issues I have asked 3 or more times to be fixed without resolution).

Issues I have had:

1) Passenger side front fender misaligned and rubbed against door, dealer fixed but there is now a paint issue in that area from where the two rubbed.

2) Hood misaligned, dealer fixed

3) Tailgate misaligned, dealer attempted to fix but it's obviously still misaligned and the spoiler sits much lower than roof, dealer say's its normal.

4) Transmission has at times harsh downshifts when stopping, also sport mode is horrible with both up and down shifts. Lately I noticed once in a awhile when I step on the gas the car acts like it can't shift or is in neutral.

5) Shudder/vibration on the highway at speed in the steering wheel. The dealer did a balancing that helped some but it's still there and they say it's normal.

6) Driver side exterior lock button doesn't always work and I'm careful about not touching the handle when pressing.

7) Loud tick/ping noise from rear of vehicle possibly spoiler when driven on sunny days. Haven't talked to dealer yet

8) Since hvac tsb to correct hot cabin, hvac blows cold air after starting even when the outside temp is 5-10 degrees Less than the inside auto setting.

9) Various uconnect issues that others have also though it seems Chrysler is trying to fix with updates.

10) Outside temp gauge and wipers don't work right. There appears to be a TSB for this which I'm willing to try but again another issue.

11) Brake booster recall - asked dealer to do but nothing done after over a month, possible part availability issue.

12) Near the lower parts of the rear wheel wells/rocker the paint is discolored, asked dealer what can be done, haven't heard back.

13) When vehicle is running and in drive but stopped vibration and drone felt/heard in the vehicle. Shifting into neutral seems to reduce or eliminate this.

Please note I am not trying to criticize Jeep or the the Grand Cherokee line, just relating my experiences and frustration/disappointment with my particular Jeep which was bought new.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but I would definitely escalate these issues you're having to Chrysler. If you have other dealers in the area, maybe try with them to see if they can solve some of the problems or give you better support? I know there are a couple TSB's for the transmission that might solve your problem and others including myself have had the shuddering with the steering wheel which also has a TSB that might solve your issue.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

My email was responded to by the dealer. Some of it they seem willing to try others they tell me are normal or are my fault somehow. I had the transmission tsbs done it's better than before but not right. Three times I complained about my steering shuddering at highway speeds but the first time I was blown off, second they did a balancing which made it a bit better but it still happens and the third time I'm told nothing is wrong and it's the road or low profile tires and that's it. As for the paint issues The dealer claims I drive over rocky roads but I don't and none of my other vehicles had this issue.

I am really disappointed and think you're right it's time to call Chrysler or go the legal route. It's a shame but I feel I should not have bad paint in areas, misaligned body panels , vibrating steering at highway speeds, transmission that has shift issues, and all the other issues. I tried to be patient with the dealer but I don't want to argue with them and that's where this seems to be heading.

Thanks for the response.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

I had so many issues with my early build 2014 GC Limited V6 4x4 that I ended up having to get rid of it, and I too encountered nothing but incompentance when dealing with my local Chrysler/Jeep dealerships. As it stands now, the only way I can get TSB work done is to first call Chrysler Customer Care and ask them to find me a dealership in my area who will perform the work.

I must be a sucker for punishment because like an idiot, I traded the Limited in for a later build 2014 Overland. Although my new Overland has been much less trouble, at about 5,000 miles the transmission started to downshift hard into 1st coming to a full stop.

Most likely this will be my last Jeep since not only have I lost confidence in the reliability of their vehicles, I no longer can put up with the shitty service I receive at the Chrysler/Jeep dealerships in my area.

I have read a few of your other threads and am sorry you are still having issues and the dealerships are so bad at responding. My dealer will do a TSB but once they feel the issue is corrected or there is no TSB it seems we enter the "no problem exists" zone. I have tried looking past all the issues but it's getting harder each time I drive it and encounter the harsh downshift or missing up shift. Also anytime I'm on the highway and the steering wheel starts to vibrate/shake it reminds me I spent a lot of money for a vehicle I hate driving on the highway. Along with the fit and finish issues that I have never experienced in all my years of new car ownership I'm running out of patience and good will for my particular vehicle.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

Spent a year and 20k miles trying to get the issues worked out on my 14 Limited. Glad I was able to get 35k for it when I did. Third JGC Limited. If they ever get their Sh#T worked out and offer loaners for service I'll be back. Still seems like the sames issues over and over and owners just keep putting up with it.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

So went to the dealer today for all my issues - So far all they did was the brake booster recall which looks incorrectly done to my eyes (see Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll ) , replace the Sun Sensor (tsb 24-002-14 which say's for exports and I'm in the USA but maybe I needed it) and the RRT 14-050 (temp display still takes 2-5 minutes to update to major changes after vehicle sat for two hours). Also I found two small paint scratches that weren't there just two days ago when I washed my vehicle.

I am going to call Chrysler tomorrow since nothing was done for the following
1) Transmission shifting issues
2) Vibration in steering wheel at highway speed, also seems the alignment was never corrected.
3) Loud Tick noise coming from rear (possibly rear spoiler?) on sunny warm days.

4) Paint issue on fender due to door and fender rubbing on delivery.
**Update dealer's autobody called and approved a repair for this. Thankfully.

5) Rear tailgate alignment
6) Paint showing signs of damage near rear wheel wells (which I'm told is because I drive on roads with stones which was news to me since I haven't)
7) Possibly improper installation of the brake booster shield per the recall.

I rather avoid calling Chrysler but I already expressed my concerns to the service manager twice without much being done, I even asked the service manager to have someone from customer care contact me and nothing happened.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

Where are the paint damage areas at on the rear wells?
Road rash is pretty obvious in appearance and location... I don't suppose while they are fixing the paint damage to the fender, you could have a heart to heart talk about the amount of grief you've gotten from them and ask if they could just be good guys and touch that up at the same time...

Do you have mudflaps? They seem to help. Pretty much all Michelins [if you have them] tend to pick up gravel and other small objects in the tread and sling it up against the body at higher speeds, where that can happen on city streets, construction areas, etc.

I might tend to disagree on how helpful your dealer is--sounds more like they are trying to get you to give up and go away in a courteous manner as opposed to trying to get you to buy anything else from them.

Re: 2014 Issues and Patience Running Out - Need Advice

Thanks for the posts and ideas. I'm waiting to get all my ducks in a row before calling Chrysler but before calling looking for a few more opinions -

Is this right or wrong way to install the brake booster recall Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

Do you have a 4x4 Overland with 20" wheels and tires? If so does your steering wheel pulsate and at times vibrate/shake when on the highway or is it perfectly still/controlled?

Rear tailgate and spoiler alignment has anyone been successful getting this to line up correctly?

As to the road rash I have tried multiple times but so far no go with the dealership. I don't have mudflaps but may add then, actually was thinking of adding them if they fixed the road flash under warranty but so far no luck.

I've been very pleasantly surprised with Dr. Colorchip for small dings.
Not as hot on scratches, but dings just disappear if you RTFM.

The mudflaps help, and if you drive in slush, they keep a lot of it off the sides and don't seem to build up underneath as much as I'd have expected.

Plus, the Jeep ones look kewl. See if they'll touch up the road rash if you get mudflaps...

Sounds like one of those fast buck dealers to me...
