Re: 2014 jeep grand cherokee oil reset

I just changed my oil and filter for the first time at 1,000 miles a few weeks ago. I didn't reset anything because I didn't want to deal with the aggravation if it didn't reset. From what I've read on this and other threads, it seems it's about a 50% chance the damn thing will reset.

So my plan is to drive and change oil and filter at intervals I feel are enough. Then when the "oil life" meter gets near 0%, I'll take a shot at it. Hopefully it will reset without having to do it 3,748 times, then have to go to the dealer out of frustration anyway. I wish the vehicle didn't have it. Just something else we're forced to screw with.

I work for an idependent automotive shop I have worked on many Jeeps specifically Chrysler products Chrysler Jeep Dodge where you press the gas pedal down three times to reset the oil life does not work for certain 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 diesel overland, tried the 3 times in 5 second and ten seconds also tried the hitting ok button, read one post about not switching to run position but acc. and hitting ok to bring you to evi screen please clarify steps

I'm currently on my second oil change. (I change oil and filter every 6 months, regardless of mileage because I drive so little). I still have not reset it yet, since I bought it a year ago. I believe I could still go around the world 3 times before the silly "oil life" meter said I had to change it. Anyway, I'm not looking forward to doing it. Hopefully it will be painless. But I'm not counting on it.

6 months will be up in June, and I'll be changing again. Perhaps then I'll try to reset it. I don't want it to trigger, because then it will show up on that "health report" Jeep sends me every month. I don't want them to think I'm neglecting my oil when I'm not.

I did mine, but I started it. I didn't shut it off. It worked. Maybe that's what's different with the push button

I don't follow? You did this with the engine running? How did you depress the accelerator 3 times without banging the engine off the rev limiter?

Re: 2014 jeep grand cherokee oil reset

This is from the 2016 manual. This was the same procedure for the 2014's so I'm sure it also applies to the 2015. The reset procedure is not engine specific.

Oil Change Reset Procedure

1. Without pushing the brake pedal, push and release the ENGINE START/STOP button and place the ignition to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine).

2. Fully push the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times within 10 seconds.

3. Without pushing the brake pedal, push and release the ENGINE START/STOP button once to return the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position. NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary, repeat this procedure.

I'm not sure if the following applies to 2014-15 models, but this was also listed in the 2016 manual.

Secondary Method For Oil Change Reset

1. Without depressing the brake pedal, push and release the ENGINE START/STOP button and place the ignition to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine).

2. Navigate to Oil Life submenu in Vehicle Info on Driver Information Display.

3. Push and Hold the OK button until the gauge resets to 100%.

This appears to be the part most are having trouble with. It shouldn't "be necessary" to repeat the procedure. This should either work, or not. It shouldn't work, "sometimes". This tells me there are issues with the procedure. When you flip a light switch, it goes on. There is a solid connection to make that happen. That does not appear to be the case here. Especially if the manual states you have to "repeat the procedure" if it fails. The fact they designed this whole thing Rube Goldberg style, with so many silly, unnecessary steps, instead of a simple reset button, is most likely part of the problem. Could you imagine designing an aircraft with this type of nonsense incorporated into it?

Timing, method and how far the accelerator pedal is being depressed is what screws it up for people. Hence the "repeat the procedure" language if it doesn't reset as a result. I can't speak for anyone else but I can say I've never once had a problem resetting it on the first try. Keep practicing.
