The times in which the message showed up i wasn't at highway speeds and the car wasn't in aero mode so that is kind of odd. I'm kind of a preventive maintenance guy so while somethings ill monitor, other things will be tended to ASAP.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

I have read this whole thread...

With that said I am going thru it right now...

I have a 2014 Laredo. I got it back in March. Since then it has been in for service 3 times

First time was the day after I got it. There was a leak in the power steering and lost all control of the wheel.

Second was the speedo/christmas tree affect... Brought it in and they did a computer flash

Yesterday I brought the car in for a new issue (or similiar) depending on how you look at it. I had some issues with my radio and playing audio via bluetooth or usb. It said connect device and wouldn't play even tho it was connected. After scheduling the appointment for the radio issues. This past saturday I was on a roadtrip to Virginia. While on I-95 going about 80 mph, all electronics turned off (including the 8.4 screen and also the speedo cluster). I lost everything for a good 5 mins. When it powered back on by itself it looks like the system did a reboot.

So I brought it in for service as planned. I was getting the run around saying it was working then saying it wasn't. I got the owner of the Dealership involved. The service manager told me there was a bunch of RPI codes (2 for radio, 1 for AC, 1 for Transmission control...etc) He said they performed a flash and that they want to test drive it. They wanted to give it to a service advisor to drive home for the night (total 120 miles there and back). This morning I called and they said the issue occurred while driving home.

I was pissed... I called Jeep corporate and they said that they have been having these issues with 2014s and they will call the dealership to see where they are at then call me back. Still waiting for their call...

After that call I received a call from the service manager. They said they have been on the phone with the engineers and that they are aware of these issues. They said it is a software issue and there is no fix just yet. They went on to explain that the temporary fix is to leave the speedometer in digital showing instead of analog. If I do that then the issue will not return until the patch is released.

I picked up the car and they want me to call every month to see if there is an update to the system.

What do you guys think of this? Should I be fighting with Corporate for a lemon issue or some sort of resolution (service or parts credit) or does this sound legit?

Please help!!!

PS I have 5,100 miles on the car

On the Christmas tree effect, the recall letters should be going out next month.

That might be a different issue than the radio.

I would stay on top of Jeep, not just the dealer. A little soon to be yelling lemon IMHO. Getting pissed won't help either, it's just a machine. Think happy thoughts and all will get resolved.

Just had my ABS Module replaced. What a pain in the ass to get these people do anything. Some of these dealerships are just clueless.

Dealer invoice is attached shows exactly what was done! Chrysler case # was open.

Per Chrysler Service Support the cause of this Christmas Tree effect, is due to a faulty ABS module.

Radio is a separate issue.

That is not really the solution ... but they thought it was when the Star Case was published.

Recall Notice:

"Vehicles Affected: 91,559 model-year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.
The Problem: The Detroit News is reporting that the automaker is recalling the SUVs to address random warning-light illumination and instrument-cluster blackout. "Engineers discovered an issue in the vehicle's antilock braking system module that affects the instrument cluster display. The issue also has implications for the vehicle's ABS and electronic stability control systems, but Chrysler Group is unaware of any reported problems involving either," the automaker said in a statement.
The Fix: Dealers will update the instrument cluster and ABS module software on all affected vehicles for free.
What Owners Should Do: Chrysler will begin notifying owners in November. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 for more information.

Actually I think the ABS Module IS the problem and the recall (software update) is the band-aide. I'd much rather have the ABS module replaced. But the ABS module replacement is expensive for them.

So if folks do have the issue, I'd bring it in now, while they are still replacing ABS modules. It certainly won't hurt.

The software fix might be just as good. But it's strange it's taken this long to sort out if it's just software.

Has anyone with the new ABS had the issue?

I had the problem early on. They changed the PCM and the problem did not return. Somebody else had a shift module changed for the same problem. I think changing anything eliminated the confluence of signals that set off the false alerts. If the abs modules are bad (it's possible) the recall would include a check of the module and the vendor would be on the hook.

Whatever happens, I hope nobody else sees all their lights come on. It's a little scary when you first experience it on a new car.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

I just had this happen today on my 2014 GC Limited with 2800 miles. Dashboard lit up , speedometer not working. I did not read this whole thread .

Vehicle seemed to drive fine. I pulled over and restarted and same thing happened. Drove home with dash lit up.

I can't get to the dealer until tomorrow, is it ok to drive the vehicle like this until I can get it in?

I see this thread is kind of old have most people with this issue have the problem resolved?

Thanks

Yes,

OK to drive and likely related to a bad ABS module or PCM programming. Safe to drive but ABS may not work depending on if that light is on.

Just like driving old school that is all.

More than likely all the lights but the mil will be out in the morning. The mil will be out after a couple of restarts. The car will drive normally and the speedometer will be working.

Jeep announced that recall letters will be going out in November. They say a flash update will eliminate the problem.
