Hi all, we had the Christmas tree delivered to our overland by santa last week. We called Jeep assist over here in Oz, and they told us to lock and unlock the car using the remote 4 times and that this would "reset" the electrical system. Has anyone else here ever been told to try that? Needless to say it didn't work, or atleast the Christmas tree was still there, however after letting the car sit for 30 or so minutes someone stole the tree and left us a check engine light. Had code 0415 on our scan tool, but spat out about 4 pages worth of codes on the dealers. The dealer cleared the codes, took it for a drive and said nothing wrong, see you if it happens again.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

We have been having radio issues but now the dash light issue has shown up. Most of the gauges still worked with the exception of the speedo, as you can see it never acknowledged that it was in gear. My wife made it to her next stop turned it off and restarted and everything went back to normal. We have an appointment with the dealership next week to get the newest update on the radio so we will see what they say about this.

I was just told by the Chrysler Recall Center that the recall has not been released yet because they need to get parts to all the dealerships. She did say the recall letters will be going out this month (November) and the recall number will be N58.

Unless something has changed, the only "parts" going to the dealers are the CDs with the software on them. They probably have a part # on the computer prompting the response.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

Quick reply from the OG of the Christmas Tree thread. I'm up to 7,000 miles on my 2014 WK2. The effect happened once in the first 1,000 miles, then once again around 2,500 miles, and again at 4,000 miles. Each time it lasted for a few hours until the car had been turned off and re-started a few times. It has not happened again. I've gone to Jeep a few times and they have not gone out of their way to try and fix anything. No replacement parts, they said they tightened grounds but of course it still happened. Its a PTA in a $45k car, but things have been quiet for the last couple thousand miles.

I believe that your issue will be more properly resolved with the upcoming recall.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

The Car Connection, November 7, 2013:

Chrysler is recalling 2014 models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee -- specifically, those vehicles manufactured between January 8, 2013 and August 20, 2013.

The recall stems from unrelated problems with the Grand Cherokee's software and electrical wiring. Combined, the two flaws could wreak havoc on the vehicle's anti-lock brake system, electronic stability control, and other elements.

This kind of compound problem is a little unusual, so we'll let the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explain it. According to NHTSA's recall bulletin, " Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function."

In other words: not only could this double-whammy of a flaw reduce a driver's ability to control the vehicle, but it could also prevent the onboard computer from warning her that there's a problem in the first place.

All told, 91,559 vehicles are affected by the recall.

Chrysler says that it will begin telling owners about the recall later this month. Once owners receive an official recall notice, they'll be able to take their Grand Cherokee to a licensed Jeep dealer, who will "update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge".

If you have questions in the meantime, we encourage you to contact Chrysler at 800-247-9753 and ask about recall N58. Alternately, you can contact NHTSA at 888-327-4236 and inquire about recall campaign #13V483000.

It's an easy ground to tighten. I checked mine and it was tight.

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

Hello All,
I have a 2014 Jeep Gran Cherokee Overland v6, i purchased it in June 2013 it has a build date of may 2013. I have had a few good months with it until this past october, the navigations started acting slow, then starting showing gray where the upper toolbar which states time or heated seats indicators would be, as well as the lower tool bars which access climate control, navigation, phone, Radio and Device. The navigation screen has gone blank daily to a black screen, sometimes sound will come out, sometimes its silent, the heated seats will stay on high and i have had two long drives one to DC and NYC over 2.5 hours where i had to stop multiple times just to get a brake from the heat as i could not shut off the heated seats and there was no regulation to stop the heat. I have had issues where the navigation will show a map but no tool bars and the map will be from some wrong road that i am not even near. Lately the screen will show normal screen however i cannot change anything other than the radio, climate control will lock up, navigation will show black, device and seat settings will not change.

I have had two navigation system installed and they have not corrected the issues, i have had 3 software upgrades including the ABS/Alternator ground wire recall done on the car and still not getting better.

I had issues where the key fob would be in the car however the car would beep for 20 mins saying key fob not located. I took pictures of this with the key fob next to it to prove it was in the car.

I had am issue where the crash avoidance failed when a car cut into my lane and i had the advanced tech package on my jeep which should decelerate the speed based on the auto in front of you, however it didn't and the crash avoidance didn't flare to say brake as the car in front of me braked. But on many occasions on a totally empty road my car will scream brake for no reason and start to apply on the brakes, which could cause an accident.

I had an issue while driving 70-80mph on the turnpike while the navigation was black and not working the air suspension decided to start lowering all the way to parking/exit mode for no reason, and then the lowering persisted for 30 mins in the top while i drove, i took the car to the dealer immediately as they said they hoped to pull fault codes for the suspension and navigation issue, however it did not throw any faults. I did however capture the events all in my phone for my lawyer as my car has been in the shop 7 times over the last month for navigation, electrical, suspension and other issues. I am currently pursuing a lemon law lawsuit claim against chrysler to buy this POS back immediately as it is not safe to drive. If anyone hears of any class actions going on about the 14 Grand Cherokee please let me know as this car has put myself in danger as well as my passengers at many instances.

If anyone else has experienced these issues please reach out to me or visit my youtube to see the electrical nightmare that is my 14 overland. jorge loescher - YouTube

Thank you

Jorge

I feel for you, man... Nothing is quite as frightening as a car that seems to have a mind of its own while you're driving. Makes me wonder how some companies expect these "self-driving" cars to be on the road in only a few years -- no joke.

Hope your lawyer can get you out of it quickly.

Cheers.
