Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

Almost made it to 5000 miles and this happened to me today. Just barely a week after I had the transmission flash done and a PCM flash. So tired of being at the dealership. I wish I were retired so I didn't have to schedule going in around work!

Re: 2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

Just got home 30 minutes ago after being gone for 50 days and my speedometer is not showing numbers. Restarted the Jeep immediately and that did not solve the problem. The needle, however, does move when driving... I would experiment some more, however I need to get gas and don't want to run to the gas station so late at night.

It sure helps. Maybe Jeep is destined to be the new Oldsmobile.

This specifically is documented in relation to the CAN Bus connector issues. (Speedometer drop out is a specific symptom)

So can I fix them or do I have to go to the dealership?

It is more than likely the Speedo drop out is linked to the connector. However it is impossible to be sure. It does need to be checked with a dealer. How many times has this happened?

Just once. As I said, I just got home last night after being gone for 2 months. The needle still moves, however, just the numbers don't show up.

OK,

This may sound really dumb but if it doesn't come up again, I wouldn't worry about it. The system in these vehicles are getting closer and closer to full on Operating Systems (there is an underlying system in the car managing all this stuff). If a single aplet didn't open once, the car was shut down (with the 15 minute wait afterwards) and restarted, if it went away it may be nothing.

If you see it again, and I mean in the next 30 days or so, I would get it checked out. I only say this because I have seen any system in a car mess up once. After a complete reboot of the system (after shut down complete Module shut down) they come back and there is no problem.

It isn't a Jeep thing either btw.

Oh no. That's all I ever remember my Grandma driving! That is, until she switched to Saturn... Look what happened to both! Hope she doesn't decide she likes Jeeps or that will be the end

I'll start it again this morning and see if it is gone. If it is, I'll just forget about it. Thanks Willx!

Dropped off the Jeep yesterday at 7am for the Christmas tree issue. Apparently yesterday they cleaned up the ground connections and a few other things like secured the fuses or something. They wanted to keep it overnight because they weren't able to reproduce the issue, but I was smart enough to take pictures while it was happening and send them to the service manager.

Today they just said they've been working with Chrysler and that they've been told to keep the vehicle and a star case was opened for my vehicle. They can't recreate my issue, but there's "definitely something quirky going on". My car has now been with the dealership it seems about 1/4 of the time its been with me the last few weeks. Sucks.
