Question 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

When driving at night, the headlights green light on the panel comes on to show they are on...but I never can really see the lights go into dim mode. Am I missing something? How do the lights automatically go from bright to dim and how can I tell?

Thanks for any replies.

Re: 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

You need to turn your brights on. When a car approaches the brights will turn off.
While the brights are on you will see a blue light in the dash.

Question Re: 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

Thanks bill_de for your quick reply. I looked in the manual and it says on page 27 for headlight switch for smartbeams to see Programmable Features in Electronics for further details. When I go there on page 104, the Programmable Features list doesn't seem to list headlights. Again, I'm missing something. How do I manually turn on the high beams?

Thank you for your quick reply and patience with me and my new 2014 Overland. I put 232,250 miles on my brand new 2001 JGC and I plan to keep the new one hopefully as long.

Push the directional signal stalk away from you.

So, for this to work, the headlights have to be set to auto, the high beams have to be set to on with the stalk, and auto dimming has to be set in the EVIC.

Hmmm it might even work with the lights set to on, but I always use auto.

Re: 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

Mine stopped auto dimming. They just stay on high. Headlights in auto mode. EVIC showing auto dim toggled on. Bright lights on with control stalk pushed away from me. Blue light on the dashboard. Oncoming drivers blinded by my retina scorching Bi-Xenons until I manually turn them off.

The things worked on Thursday night, but not last night or tonight. Do I need to see a witch doctor to exorcise this gremlin?

Re: 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

Mine work perfect. No lights in the street and no approaching cars it turn brights on.
As soon as a car points their lights at my car they shut off.
Auto+stalk lever push forward.
A message will come on when they activate and deactivate.

If you consider a new windshield at the factory, then yes. The truck has 500 miles on it.

Re: 2014 JGC Overland auto headlight dimming

I have a problem with the high beams dimming on country roads with reflective signs. The reflected light from markers, especially on curves with a lot of markers, will dim my high beams.

The auto dimming high beams do not work under 20 mph

Matter of fact I can't get the high beams to even go on under 20. So if the bights are on they dim down once you go below 20??? At least that's how mine seem to work.

Considering I was doing between 35 and 45, they should be working then. They worked last Thursday, but weren't working tonight. I'll have to try them out on an interstate, apparently, although they worked just fine at 25 mph in my neighborhood last Thursday.

I cleaned what should ostensibly be a clean sensor on the back of the mirror. No dice.
