2014 JGC Overland Issues

Hey guys, hope all is well with everyone.

My truck is once again in the dealership. Since I am a new member I'll give you the back story quickly to catch you up.

I bought the truck in mid August out of the showroom. Loved it as soon as I saw it and drove it. When the truck had about 2000 miles on it, there was this very loud screeching noise coming from the engine that was getting worse and worse. I took it to the dealership for them to diagnose it. Ended up that my power steering pump failed during their test drive of the truck. at 2000-3000 miles on a brand new truck that mostly sees highway driving. Service guy told me he's never seen anything like that. Also, shifting was horrendous and jerky, radio was freezing and working poorly and my interior dome lights rarely worked when I would open the door. They replace the pump, tell me they can't get the interior lights to malfunction like I was reporting and that if it happened again they would just replace the switch. They updated the trans tuning which fixed the trans and then my radio stopped working and kept rebooting itself almost every day. Updated that a little while later and everything was fine.
While I was driving through upstate NY to a clients house, my check engine light came on. Again, take it to the dealer and he tells me its some emissions code that popped up and I would have to schedule an appointment to further diagnose.
Here is where I am now. I dropped my truck off yesterday morning for the CEL, dome light issue again and now my driver side rear door ambient lighting is out. I get a call about 2 hours later informing me that there was indeed an update for something in the truck, not sure exactly what, BUT, that isn't my biggest problem. The bigger issue in now that my cluster fried itself during this update and a new one is 10 days out from delivery, meaning I would be without my truck for 12 days. I'm sure this sounds like a lot of bitching and complaining, but I don't expect issues like this from a brand new truck thats not even a year old that has a sticker of almost 50k. I love the look of the truck but these constant little problems are driving me insane. I am actually considering getting rid of the truck.
Sorry for the long post, I am just really frustrated with this. Thanks for any meaningful input.
Best wishes,
Andrew

What's the build date of your vehicle? The early builds have more problems than the later ones.

I'll have to check when I get the truck back. Not sure when that is going to be as of right now. Waiting on the dealership to contact me with more updates.

Re: 2014 JGC Overland Issues

I feel your pain...

I ultimately traded in my early build 2014 Limited for a late build Overland because of all the issues I had with the Limited.

And I love the truck, I think that when its mechanically working great, its amazing. But its getting to the point where one week is good and the next week something pops up. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it!

Me too...that's why I bought another one after hearing that the later builds had a much better track record.

Good luck with your GC, and keep us posted as to what happens.

Re: 2014 JGC Overland Issues

Just read this thread, sorry to hear the OPs issues. What concerns me is why did an update fry any components? Did they find the actual electrical issue that may have caused all your issues leading up to this? I know early builds had loose fuses and ground cables.

I hope everything is going to be made right but keep all paperwork for these issues and attempts to repair them just in case.

Email Jeep

Ask for a buyback. Don't forget to tell them that you have "lost faith in the vehicle". Saying that you just want a replacement of the same thing will also help. You could even threaten to institute the lemon law (and could if they don't buy it back, assuming your Jeep meets the lemon law standards in your state) and/or involve a lawyer.

Yeah that's going to be the next step I think. Dealer said they are going to call me today so when I hear from them I'll report back here. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I'm definitely going to try that route.

It's not bitching and complaining. The number of issues that folks are having with brand new GC's is still pretty staggering. You don't expect new vehicles to have to go back to the dealer except for oil changes.

Hope they get it fixed for good for you. Despite all the issues my wife and I had with ours (ultimately leading to a Lemon Law buyback), we still miss it every day. It's why I still check in here every once in a while, despite the fact that I'm down to just my 2002 Wrangler.

We're up to 8000 miles on our CR-V now, and zero issues. Of course, neither one of us particular like the damn thing.

One piece of advice -- exhaust all your avenues with the dealership and with Chrysler *first*. As soon as I mentioned Lemon Law (after I had basically had it with the lack of cooperation from both my dealer and my "Jeep Care" rep), all lines of communication with Chrysler were severed. You might end up down that road, but if you get good signs from your dealer that they might be open to a buyback, wait on the Lemon Law card. You can pull that one anytime.

Cheers, and Good Luck!
