Exactly! They operate that way so they meet federal regulations. There isn't ever going to be a legal way to change this. The only way you would be able to would be to possibly alter the vehicles software -- good luck -- or solder in some relays in the light housing.

There is an easy solution. You can (I think) go into the EVIC and turn off the DRLs.

Relax domer!!! no one is trying to convince anyone of anything because if you want all your lights on while you wait for a turn knock yourself out and enjoy that. We are all sharing views, you don't have to abide by them and no ones feelings are hurt if you don't.

If a 100K Porsche also turns off the LED DRL's when the turn signal is activated, I think our lowly <50K Jeeps are fine as is.

It's a silly DOT rule here in North America. In Europe, the LEDs aren't required to dim or turn off completely when the turn signal is on. I have an Audi and I was able to change the programming so that my LEDs stay on when the turn signal is on. It was a simple coding change and it only took a minute to do with a VAGCOM cable.

Yes and no. The latest MMI (which I have in my car) has a hidden menu that will allow you to make changes to the coding. However, to access the hidden menu, you need VAGCOM, at least for the first time. Otherwise, you can't access the hidden menu. But once you have access, you'll always have it, at least until you bring your car back to the dealer and they do a software update or reflash the system for some reason. Then it is back to square one.

I don't mind it turning off while turn signal is active. It helps from all the other idiots on the road from hitting me.

Re: 2014 LED DRL off when Signaling? Anyway to change it

Funny story about this....

The dealer I bought my Jeep from, his wife actually works at the same place of employment as me. I got a call one day from the dealer saying that he was dropping his wife off at work and saw me pulling in (my blinker was on) and wanted to let me know that he noticed one of my LED DRL's was out and asked if I wanted to bring it in for service.

I told him that the Jeep does that when I turn the blinker on. Anyways, I got a chuckle out of it as he is a salesman and didn't even know the Jeep did that. But in any event, it goes to show that the LED going off can make the Jeep appear to be "broken" to others and really looks tacky I think. But it is what it is and I have no control over it, so not to worried about it.

I will agree with another post here though, the LED's do not turn off at night with the headlights on (which is much brighter than the LED's during the day by it's self). So if drivers can see the turn signal at night, I don't see why they couldn't see it during the day. I'm not saying I disagree with why the LED turns off during the day as I understand why they do it, but I don't really see why it was necessary as you can still see it clearly if the LED's remained on.

I mean, If people couldn't see the blinker (amber color) flashing inside of a (Blue) DRL light, then they shouldn't be driving to begin with lol.

Anyways, if I could fix it I would, but I'm not going to dwell over it.

That's funny that dealers and salesman don't take the time to thoroughly know the product that they're selling to the consumer. We here in this forum are much more informed about things then most dealers and salesman and that shouldn't be. I'm glad you schooled him though so now perhaps he will have a valid answer should a question be posed by a customer.
