2014 possible issues

This is a 2014 Hemi Overland 4x4.

Just wanted to ask those out there who have similar vehicles if they have noticed anything like what I'm noticing. I'm fairly certain I know what these things ARE...just wondering if it's been experienced by any others and what was done about it.

1) What feels like a bit of a driveline vibration at high speed (72-78mph). Its not severe...a bit of a "nibble" or harshness in the steering wheel and a light rumble in the cabin. The steering wheel thing isn't a shake like those with the tire imbalance issues -- the tire feel is smooth as glass on mine and the wheel doesn't shake at all. You can just feel a vibration in it and can hear the light rumbling in that speed range.

2) Semi-loud rumble in the cabin with the A/C on, in gear, and at idle (stoplight, etc). It does it without the A/C as well for a second, then as the RPM drops a bit more it fades, but with the A/C on it sits up on the RPM side a bit more and this rumble is constant.

Peter... Same problem... 2014 summit with hemi. Like yourself, I am not experiencing any tire or road noise vibration. I am experiencing this resonating vibration... Buzz... If u will. In drive at stoplight u feel it.. Idles properly for a few seconds then buzzzzz for about six seconds felt in cabin, in steering wheel, audible, then goes away for seconds, then returns. Like yourself I've tested with and without AC as I thought the compressor cycling was causing this. Like yourself, I do not see a relationship. Unlike yourself I do not relate the resonating buzz with change in rpm.. At times, perhaps but ever so slightly. Note that my AC isn't blowing very cold air. I haven't had dealer look at it yet as I just completed fixing all u connect issues ultimately w replacement of head unit. I theorized that low refrig, cycling compressor may be causing this but not sure... Yes I tried it w AC off but I'm not positive the jeep ever shuts the compressor off. Will see when dealer investigates... Gets better.. I feel a steady resonance and hear it after the vehicle is hot at idle. In park it goes away.. Presumably due to higher rpm. However I also feel the buzz and resonance when driving at high speeds especially when trans shifting into mostly 6th gear.. I take note of the gear when I feel it, however can happen at almost any gear also...to summarize... Is it a characteristic of the hemi? After all that engine is ticking and clicking up a storm and certainly has the feel of power is some resonating sound normal? Why the 'cycling'... Glad you posted, I came on the forum just now to ask the very same question. I believe we have the very same symptoms even if we are a little off describing it. Oh yes changed fuels also, grade etc.. No difference....

Re: 2014 possible issues

I think we might be talking about different issues. My issue is more of a "drone" -- low pitched sound when at idle and in gear. It sounds more or less like a subwoofer outputting a continual low tone. There's a bit of a "buzz" vibration that shows up in the steering wheel when it is going on as well.

Interestingly, when I start the Jeep, as it idles down it will pass through an rpm band just above where it would normally idle. As it does...this noise and feeling gets LOUD, then fades away as it finally settles into its normal idle.

This wouldn't be a big deal except its doing it every time I come to a stop when driving. A resonating, very noticeable body boom kind of noise as described.

I'm also getting a lot of engine vibration in the driver's footrest area and steering wheel when accelerating, especially at lower speeds.

Peter... Yes same issue... How's your AC? Cold? See if u can go to max AC and recirculate. My account own cold, then nit cold, then cold, not cold. It cycles same interval as drone noise. I see very little tach movement but I know we have the same issue. Its very annoying. I'm getting vibration and pronounced buzz when shifting at times....

And yes the engine vibration in drivers area is exactly what I'm referring to as shift buzz.. Same issues... Wonder if any other hemi 2014 owners are experiencing? I'm gonna take it in for an oil change Friday and have them look at it.

Interesting. Does yours do the idle sound without the A/C as well? Mine does...A/C just makes it show up more often.

Haven't really noticed a cycle in the A/C temp or if it's getting really cold. I might bring that up. It's actually at the dealer right now being looked at by a Chrysler tech rep...

There's a STAR case open on mine for this. I'll check with the dealer and tech rep tomorrow and see what they've come up with. Even if there isn't a specific fix right now, if you bring yours in you might want to reference it as if Chrysler gets enough similar issues it starts getting more in-depth attention.

Yes AC makes it show up more often but it happens with AC off also as I said I don't think the AC is ever off so somehow may be related. What is your star case number so I can reference? Good luck. We are definitely experiencing the same issue. I'll also let you know what my dealer turns up and please keep me posted also... Hemi owners.. Assume you guys have experienced none of this? I have been advised that with the hemi there may be resonance like this, however if this is normal, I have an issue with it!

Re: 2014 possible issues

I have noticed the same noise on my 2014 Overland Hemi. It is really obvious when you are idling and sitting next to a wall or building. It sounds like something related to the exhaust near the engine. It seems to come and go.

Now that my rear shock noise has been fixed (the dealer replaced the rear shocks due to extreme rattles) I may pay more attention the the "exhaust" rattle, but so far it doesn't really bother me.

I did have a Magnaflow exhaust system installed, and really like it. The exhaust is a little louder now, so it tends to "cover up" a lot of low level rattles, etc.

I am also getting DYNAMAT sound deadening installed next week in the whole rear area of my Jeep. They will remove the rear side panels, and the spare tire area and DYNAMAT everything.

Other than a few minor issues, I have really enjoyed the Jeep and I am almost at 10,000 miles on it!

It's not normal...at least not at the sound level I'm getting. Neither my dealership, the Chrysler tech rep, nor the Chrysler engineering rep that have listened to it think it's "normal." They just aren't sure what it is or how to fix it. They aren't sure it's the exhaust...it might be an engine vibration that's "exciting" the vehicle body and making it resonate with a low "booming" or rumbling noise.

They want a few more miles on the vehicle to get it out of break-in (I'm at 450 -- they want to see it at 2000) to see if anything changes. If not...then it's a deep dive into it.

Re: 2014 possible issues

Sorry for late reply - I have 5500 miles. Willx believes it may just be Hemi Resonance - I asked him - and he's said he's experienced this type of noise in the Hemi's. Hate to say it - it is an american car - and I've been thinking that perhaps I'm too critical of it. Don't know - shouldn't have this type of issue with a $55k vehicle. I will have my dealer address with the AC at the oil change - which will be this week.

Lets keep each other posted Peter! Good luck!

Re: 2014 possible issues

Its definitely something relate dot engine or exhaust. Happens at idle - and drive for me -- I feel the vibration and noise on some shifts.

Experiment: Drive the jeep as slowly as you can - like 20 or so - go up to 25 - let it shift around - i get some funky noises and buzzes etc. I also get the 'bump' from the rear in stop and go traffic - annoying.
