For those of you who have updated their software to 13.19.0 and have had to bring their vehicle in to have their radio serviced:

Are you being asked how it is that you have the latest software on an older radio?

If so, what are you telling them?

I have an appointment this coming week because of the " phone needs service" message.

I just purchased my first Jeep this past weekend, on 8/17! I got a 2014 GC Limited with the Lux II package and upgraded UConnect Nav system. I have a few questions that I've been searching this forum for.

Seeing your post, my first question is how do you know the build date of your Jeep? I've got a piece of paper that came in the Jeep with a barcode, the type of vehicle, some other ID numbers it looks like, and a timestamp (Jun 5, 2013 11:39). Would this be the build date? Besides that, all the paperwork only has the date of purchase on it. (I bought it from the lot, not an order).

With that being said, if Jun 5 is my build date, should I be concerned about the radio? A few things I have noticed so far: cannot for the life of me find out how to get the turn by turn directions of the nav into the EVIC cluster (this is supposed to be an option, right?), the outside temp is clearly wrong a decent portion of the time (saying it is 70 in Austin, TX in the middle of the afternoon in August is a dream), and my "analog" speedometer went blank one day when in a parking lot (it came back on later that day, and the weird thing is the digital speedometer option continued to work the whole time.).

I know that's a lot, and this may be the wrong place to post it, but you comment of the build date is what got me started. Sorry for any newbie mistakes!

The truth!

There is too much fear of service departments expressed by many people. The way to approach them is to tell them what you did, tell them what the problem is, and ask them what they plan to do about it.

My service department hadn't heard of the update (13.15.4) and appreciated it when I printed them a copy of the instructions.

Your given the dealership way too much credit. Bring it in for service tell them it's not working. Would bet a pretty penny they don't even ask let alone acknowledge it except when they go to apply the update and see its already done and then, on to the next troubleshooting step...

Hold on, hold on. I am still running 13.05 on my radio and it has been working fine since March, which is why I hesitate to update to the new software. Judging by the comments on this thread, it seems I need a new radio?????????????? That is absolutely a bunch of BS if that's the case and I am extremely disappointed in Chrysler for loading back units into their trucks.

I've got a question for those that have had a radio replaced, or know the drill. Is this a very intrusive surgery on the dash? What are the chances of damaging the dash or trim? I'm waiting now to see if an update being pushed from Uconnect will solve a registration problem with Uconnect, but since my build date is April 6th, I may be facing a radio replacement. Just curious, and know some of you may be able to answer these questions. By the way, my dealer's service department is very competent, but I don't know if they've replaced a RA4 radio yet.

Three quick notes,

If anyones service department gives them grief about getting a radio replacement, please PM me with the details of the conversation (why they told you they couldn't) and as I have discussed with others it is sometimes a matter of they just don't have the info we do and I can assist with that.

The Radio replacement is no better or worse than past years, they take off the trim plate and it is not a huge deal. If they are idiots (which Jacko it sounds like yours are ok) then they may do something stupid. I would suggest for anyone elses piece of mind, take dated pictures of your dash in case you do have an arguement.

Verify your dealer does know about the STAR Case on the radios. If they don't know why they are replacing the radio, they may put an older unit in and that is not what is supposed to happen but apparently has to one person.

I have no idea what you are talking about, most people here have a friend who works in an out of state service department that brought by the USB stick with the software when they came over for a beer... :D You know because you mentioned to them your Radio was all slow and messed up:(

Who is this Willx guy anyway? :slapfight:

But JDChamp is spot on. If you have problems with the unit, feel free to post them or PM me and I can tell you if it will be a required replacement or something else.

Not all of them have issues (just a fair number do) that are from the older build. I just mentioned in another thread I know people running Feb. build trucks that I worked with the service department personally on the updates and they are 100% good, no errors on loading or anything.

Sucks I just got this on my radio again yesterday. It appeared the first month and hasn't been an issue after I reset the system, but now it appeared again and I'll have to go ahead and have the dealer replace the unit. Is Chrysler aware of what is causing this yet?

glad i found this. my new 2014 jeep GCL is at dealer now waiting for new radio. They disconnected it till it comes in and yesterday all the service lights came on. ABS, BRAKE, Check Engine, ETC. I had to drive it like that to dealer. They gave me a loaner. I sure hope after my new radio comes in these problems will be resolved. If anyone out there has had their radio replaced they should post if any problems. thanks.

That's not an uncommon problem. This is the first time I heard of the radio being the problem. If you had turned the car off for awhile it would have temporarily fixed itself. You might suggest to your service department that they check Star Cases, just in case.

I guess I forgot to mention the beginnng of the problem, Phone needs service, contact your dealer, Navigation says I am in San Antonio Texas when I live in NJ. Bought car to dealer and they tried to upgrade/reinstall, whatever and it failed. So they ordered me a new radio, disconnected the old one. I took the car home and nothing on the dash worked, air, infact the heat was on. then 2 days later still radio not in, I had all these lights come on in the dash, Brake, ABS, Check Engine. So when I took it back to dealer they said don't drive it,leave it here till new radio comes in.

The two problems are slightly different. They should never have disconnected the radio??? Even if the update failed they should have left the radio in place, unless you had something really weird happen that I have never heard of?

Hopefully they are on the right track now and dealing with it for you.

Sounds like your issues are a little more involved that what I'm having. Other than the " phone needs service" message everything has been working fine. In fact I was not even going to have the radio replaced but I was advised to in order to avoid future problems.

I'm expecting a call today or Monday to schedule the replacement. If you get yours replaced post back how the install went. Good luck

I've been following the various uconnect threads and I am still a little confused on this particular Phone requires service fix.

My jeep was built 6/22, came factory with 13.19.0... I should have a "good", recent radio then, not an early build.

I have received the message a few times as well as the mirror red light.

I also had the drivers seat decide to start moving on it's own on entry (never programmed the fobs yet) and also lost presets once so far (went to some default ones, no idea where they came from, not local stations). Factory order with 8 miles when I took delivery, so i doubt anyone set anything...

I don't think I need a new radio based on when it was built, seems that 13.19.0 is still a little buggy.

Called the dealer once about the phone message and they had no idea what I was talking about... have not had it happen in almost two weeks now so maybe it healed itself.

I'm with a few others in that I would rather not have any dealer completely pull my dash apart unless 100% necessary.

Interestingly enough, Uconnect issues for the most part haven't been a problem for me (early build). However, last week all our presets were lost at some point, including driver mirrors/seat. I had updated to 13.19.0 maybe two or three weeks ago and everything was working fine.

So I set up all the presets again, but now the Park Sense setting won't "stick" anymore, and I can't connect to the Uconnect store and all my apps are gone.

Oh well. Chrysler will be owning this thing again in two to three weeks. Not going to even bother with the dealer this time.

Like you said earlier, for something to happen, something has to happen.

it's just strange how several people who have been trucking along problem free tend to report odd, isolated issues popping up at about the same time out of seemingly nowhere.

Kinda like Windows right after an automatic update .... I'm still feeling the effect of the IE 10 auto upgrade to my user base and it's been a couple months now...

At any rate, downloading the file to have at the ready. Appreciate your advice and making the files available.
