Just a suggestion, flipping back and forth between Drive and Sport mode is really quick and easy, especially if you drive with your hand on the shifter like I do. Sport mode gets you going like a rocket, and tapping back to Drive puts you back in eco.

Re: 2014 Transmission

I guess I should add that 90% of my driving is through town...like 4 mile commute to work with a bunch of stop signs/red lights (which i do a few times a day to go home for lunch). I always turn off the ECO mode as soon as I start it up and only really use the sport mode when merging onto highways when i need instant acceleration. It's nice to hear that at least one dealer has heard of an existing software update. I had a very smooth commute this morning without a hint of lurching/bucking/banging in the low gears so maybe it is actually figuring itself out and just taking a little longer than stated. I'll be sure to mention said software update when i'm at the dealer this weekend and mention the issue just to get it on the record if nothing else.

Regarding the step rails, there are two different ones - chrome with black steps and black on black. The black on black look glossy and almost plastic. Doesn't mesh well. The chrome looks very nice on the Silver or Black (like mine)....gives some chrome flair in the middle of the vehicle and doesn't make it look so empty between the wheels....especially if you have the 20s.

I do flip to sport mode when I need to merge quickly or other very quick needs but that also lowers the suspension (if equipped) and also changes the shift patters greatly. I don't need this at every stop sign/light but I do need something better than eco mode. So turning off eco mode and NOT using sport mode is the only real option for me at normal lights/stops.

A normal shifting 1,2,3 gear pattern but eco mode in 6,7,8 gears would be perfect for me. Then I would use sport mode as needed and eco mode all of the time. Taking my eyes off the road to turn on and off eco mode is not the safest thing. Sport mode is easier as you don't have to look away from the road but then again you are burning up way more gas than needed.

Getting that rating with the EPA definitely sucks for those of us who don't like to be rear-ended.

I just hit only 150 miles and I think it's starting to smooth out a little bit. I still prefer non-ECO as I have a pretty short commute filled with traffic and red lights.

For the step rails, I might go with the chrome since my exterior is black. And with the 20s it will look great.

Re: 2014 Transmission

After today I'm at 600 miles, and I don't get the downshift issues you all have mentioned, however, on a slow acceleration it does feel like the transmission doesn't know what gear to grab. Almost feels like a quick flutter as it decides and then suddenly grabs. If I turn Eco off it's less noticeable and with sport mode it's no issue = I have a V6.

Re: 2014 Transmission

I'm at 750 miles. I have not had the issues described in this thread. I generally drive in "D" with eco mode off. I must say I am really happy with my Jeep -- a V6 Overland. The only issues I have encountered are the blast of blue smoke on start up and occassional lagginess in the Uconnect.

It seems like only v6 owners are complaining. Any v8 owners having this problem?

My SRT does the 'lurch' while downshifting between 5th and 2nd gear. Happens about 20% of the time. Hoping a software update fixes it when available. .

Re: 2014 Transmission

My V6 8 sp tranny has been flawless since day 1. 3000 mi on it now. Smoothe as butter up and down shifting. Leave it in Eco 99% of the time. Accellerates just fine in Eco for city driving.

Re: 2014 Transmission

I would agree w/ threads describing the poor performance of the trannny in low gear with eco mode active (2014 V6 summit). It is at least as bad as my 2011 overland as it upshifted at all the wrong times for all gears. I've found with ECO mode off the initial start lug (hammers the gear box) b/w 1st and 2nd is less apparent/absent. Sport mode is a vast improvement from my 2011. These are simple programming fixes in low gear ECO mode active to model the ECO mode off for gears 1 and 2. I also find the downshifting to be far more active than my 2011 - I don't consider this a negative. Also - who ever nixed the rear glass release should be fired!!

Re: 2014 Transmission

Anyone having issues with a rough 2014 8 speed transmission, read this post:
I Think I Fixed My Rough Shifting 8sp Transmission

A battery cable reset appears to be fixing the issue for just about everyone including myself. Super smooth transmission now. Eco mode is better too.
