I ran the SUV without the engine cover and fuse box cover. I still hear the faint pinging. I don't hear it with the windows down or with the radio on. Its definitely more like a faint rapid pinging, not a rattle. Maybe like hot oil sizzling in a frying pan but with a more metallic tin sound. That's exactly how it sounds to me.

The sound is definitely not inside the cabin the but more likely in the engine bay because it sounds muffled. I should just stop focusing on the sound and enjoy my new Jeep. It seems to be a common problem and people here posted hearing it since the 2014 models and the vehicles have nothing catastrophic happen from that noise.

So I'll fiddle with it more tomorrow because I'm OCD about it.

1) Move the heater hose around away from the heat shield and see if that's it.

I'll update tomorrow. Let me know if you find out anything else too.

Are you getting bad gas mileage too? Compared to my 2014 overland V6, the v6 on my HA feels weak and is getting bad gas mileage and pinging to boot.

Try turning off Eco or put in sports mode for more power.
I am getting around 17 mpg. I live in Los Angeles so lots of stop and go. My coworker has also a 2015 GC and he hasn't noticed the pinging. He was getting low mpg but once he took a road trip the mpg went up around 24mpg. I expect mine to do the same.

Today I heard a different noise after I went over the speed bump. I believe it's the common rattle from under the dash steering column area. It's an unused bracket that gets lose. I'm going to take it off and that should take care of that. I just need to find that thread so I know which one.

I don't think this is the pining sound we are both hearing.....is it what you are hearing if it were constant?

I don't think that is it. I only hear it under load in high gears. Where are you taking the video at?

I found the video on other forums. This is under the dash. It's an unused bracket, I am sure Jeep has taken it out already since there were lots of complaints about it.

I found another video which I think might be it. It's a loose bolt for the skid plate. It's closer to the pinging sound I am hearing.

Let me know if this could be it. I can imagine this vibrating on load.

Fyi.. I put premium gas and no change at all. Same sound under load.

I don't think that is it. I'm not sure what it is though, but I only hear it when under load....

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

From what I read here and the dealer told me the v6 makes noise. I hear mine when cold stating the engine or can hear it on quiet roads when driving with windows down

That's probably right. I don't think the little pinging is so bad. I told my dealer and he told me that come in. As far as the rattle or creak in the dash....he said it might me the dash flexing on acceleration.

In any case I went about tapping the undercarriage just to see if anything loose. I found a semi exposed wire harness underneath the passenger side. Can someone check theirs? It is approximate under where the door and front fender meet.

Here is the exposed wire harness.

and here is my Jeep photoshoot

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Figure anything out on the rattle? I'm wondering if maybe it's an exhaust leak? For me that may explain the sluggish performance and weak throttle response. I'll probably take it in once I hit 1000 miles.

So I took it to the dealer and got it back 2 days ago. They couldn't duplicate the noise. Go figure, I rode off hearing pinging on acceleration. Obviously at higher speeds you can't hear it. But low speeds or going up a hill or something at lower speeds you can hear it.

So I figure if the noise is obvious to me and I'm sure they can hear it ....then it might be a common sound they are use to from the V6. The car seems to run fine. no issues. I will upload the sound in a few days. Can you record yours?

In any case, I have documentation. I will go to another dealer when I put a few more miles in. They said I can get a tech to ride along with me but only during week days when I have work.

Let me know what the dealer says. Also the exposed harness is normal...they say. Can you check under your Jeep? Passenger side.

I went to another dealer to get them to diagnose it. They were a lot more receptive and ended keeping my GC for 2 weeks.

The service manager and service writer were able to hear the pinging sound on acceleration. The dealer put it on rack and had 3 techs trying to figure it out. Obviously being on the rack, the car wasn't under any load. The pinging sound did not manifest itself under those conditions. In any case, the dealer knew the noise was there but couldn't figure it out. On the second week they had the Chrysler expert take a look at it. The expert noticed the sound on test drive and advise the dealer to remove the valve train cover and send him pictures of the camshaft. Upon inspecting the valve train components, they discovered two lifter plungers slightly spongy and replace 2 valve lifters. I was hoping this would do the trick...but sound persists. The dealer asked me bring the car back at a later date empty of gas and I suppose they want to test out the fuel system.

I've attached their diagnosis.

Have you taken it to the dealer yet? Was it an exhaust leak?
