Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I suggest the Click and Clack method of having your brother in law hang under the car with a stethoscope while you drive it...

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

The owner of the dealership Larry Foss did exactly that and still came up with nothing other than he got wet since he got caught in a rain storm.....thanks.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Took it in today, and the service manager took a drive with me. He says "he thinks he hears it." The rub is that I can't really hear it when I sit in the passenger seat (he was driving), so it's hard to pinpoint to say "yeah that's it!" He said it sounds like a metallic rattle at around 20MPH (which seems to match what I said). He suspects a loose heat shield that's vibrating, so they are going to put it up on a lift and inspect them I suppose. I frankly don't have high hopes that he'll nail it, but hey... I can dream, right?

In light of some of the other stuff I see on these forums: "my car's totally dead", "transmission is slipping", "instruments freeze and lock up or black out", etc. this IS a minor thing, but it's annoying and I really want to enjoy the car. It's a lot of money for a rattle like that when it's new imho.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

You are describing my sound to a "tee"...it is more difficult to hear it on the passenger side, it starts in at 20'ish, if he drives it more he will hear it more clearly. I swear mine is getting louder now that is has nearly 2000 miles on the clock and the sound seems more to the center of the engine compartment, it is not in the dash area at all. Chief Jeep engineer is coming to look at mine on July 8. Multiple individuals have looked for the loose heat shield and nothing has been found on mine to date, it may be the cause but I really doubt it. best of luck with yours! Please have them document your issue with Star! Thanks

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I have a very similar vibration /rattle noise on my 2014 Laredo,, it only last a few seconds from a stand still on a slow acceleration, hot to about 20 mph. But to me I would describe it as a plastic vibration noise not a metal noise.. but it does sound like its under the steering colum or dash ,,, brought it to dealer, and of course they said they can't find anything wrong ,,, it doesn't sound like a mech. Problem,, and when I went to pick it up ,couldn't replicate noise till half way home... I have to bring it back and try again,,, I'm very frustrated,, its a little over a week old,, !!!!!! I hope I can get this resolved. Now I'm trained onto the noise ... Artery.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

THANK YOU !!! I wonder if this is the same noise. I wouldn't really call it a metalic noise but more of a plastic noise. Hmmmmm I will have them check. Tia is

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Are any misfires or error codes being recorded ? For a V6 particularly that would be my next step.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Not sure if this helps, but I had the same type of sound coming from the left side engine compartment - dealer tech did hear it / dropped car off and they have on (backorder) a new water pump, not sure how this is related, but lets see if this fixes the issue... see thread: Beeping sound from engine bay

edit:: this is on a 2014 Overland v6

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Had the bracket looked at on my late production 2014 and it did not help my rattle. I think a lot of us are having another issue and i think it is in the exhaust manifold and or valve train and I think we are going to get some answers very soon. Mine is being looked at on July 8 by "the expert" (2nd one) and they are bringing a ton of listening equipment. While I wish I was not having this issue I do think we are getting some attention, I did write a letter to Sergio voicing my opinions.
