While I wish I was not having this issue I do think we are getting some attention, I did write a letter to Sergio voicing my opinions.
What Does yours sound like ?? Metal or just a plastic, vibration type sound??

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I'm actually glad that I'm not the only one having this issue. Makes me feel a little better although I'm not sure whether it's actually a good thing that alot of people are having this issue. I've got an appointment to get it checked out on July 12th. Kinda hoping that somebody finds something by then so i can drop a little hint to the techs for things to look at. I almost want to go as far as suggesting that it's present at idle...although very light or not rattling as fast if that makes any sense.

Also wondering if anyone with a V8 is noticing this as well?

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

My rattle is not plastic'ee and is far more than a label blowing around in the wind. Starts at 18 MPH peaks at like 46 MPH and then gets swallowed up with other noises but it is still there. As I stated in a previous post it is constant, occurs only upon acceleration and appears to come from the drivers side or top of engine. premium gas made no difference. It sounds like metal rattling around, if you turned the radio up you would most likely not hear it. It does not get any louder it stays even. The steering bracket TSB/recall has been done. Jeep engineer from Detroit said yesterday that it will most likely be discovered to be a manifold issue and I wonder if they do not know something is not right in a lot of the 2014 GC's? Will see what happens on July 8 when two (2) Jeep engineers will look at my vehicle here in NH.....I appreciate their attention to my sitation (that appears to be a problem for others as well!) and I will allow the process to go forward as planned but I will continue to push for resolution including a buy back of the vehicle if we do not get this fixed very soon. Thanks

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Well, here's been my experience so far.

Took it in last week, and the service manager said that he heard something, but I don't think we were hearing the same thing. He said they did an inspection of the heat shielding and a safety inspection. They said they tightened up something, but of course, when I drove it away at the end of the day, it was still there. I brought it back today and now he says he hears what I am talking about, but it may be a "normal noise" and have something to do with the variable timing engine or something (which smells like bs to me, but I am not a mechanic). This noise started at around 1100 miles for me - or at least I started noticing it then (there is 2100 on it now), so I think he simply has no idea what it is. He claims a "Chrysler Field Technician" is there today and he'll show it to him (or I guess let him hear it). I don't hold high hopes for this. I have a feeling I'm stuck with the noise.

My best description of the noise is sounding like a thin wire metal spring in a glass test tube that vibrates or rubs when you accelerate. It's higher frequency, almost like a metallic or chirping vibration (god I hate trying to describe noises). It doesn't do it when I coast, or at least it's almost indistinguishable when I coast, and most noticeable at lower speeds (around 20 mph to maybe 40, but it's always there when I give it gas). It's also directly proportional to how much I press down on the pedal: so the more the engine revs, it seems to make the noise more - not louder, just more often). I feel like it's coming from in front of me when I am driving... almost forward and down a bit (like buried in dash or in engine compartment). It's less noticeable on the passenger side too but if radio and climate is off, I can hear it.

This is frankly super annoying. I almost can't NOT hear it. Anyway, passing on all the info I can so we can see if we're all experiencing the same thing, or if it's just different stuff we think is the same thing.

ragoodsp - I thought May Build Date and later WK2's didn't need the steering bracket fix?

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Leapc....sure sounds exactly like my rattle/noise. You are right in that you just always hear the sound now and it just spoils the pleasure of driving what is otherwise a super vehicle. The dealership saw the TSB on the steering bracket and said they checked it out but honestly new it did not apply or was not the issue. We will see what happens on the 8th...your description of "wire in a glass" is perfect.....thanks, Ron

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Interesting. According to the dealer, the Chrysler tech said it's a "Baffle inside the muffler" that's causing the issue. They ordered a new one for me, and they'll have that in on Monday. I am not sure if that's actually what it is or not, but it certainly makes sense. I will keep updating this after they install the part (I think they are replacing an entire section of exhaust). This make sense to anyone?

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

That's the sound perfectly. I can hear it better when i drive by jersey barriers or tree-lined roads when i get the sound reflection from objects. Just parked in a parking lot next to other cars at idle, i can hear something that doesn't sound quite right - like a tick tick tick. Like you said, it gets faster the more you accelerate and then wind noise washes it out over 40mph. Agreed that this is really ruining my new car experience as i drive everywhere now with my windows down and AC/radio off so i can listen to it for more clues or symptoms. I think we'll get more info here real soon. A 40k vehicle should not give off this kind of noise so the excuse of "it's normal" is not acceptable.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Well, if they replace the exhaust and it does the trick, I will immediately post the findings here. I hope it does the trick. Gotta say, I am skeptical at this point.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I hear something similar to all of this on my Overland as well. However, I also hear it very distinctly when I have the ACC on and the car is decelerating itself. Maybe that is a whole different issue, but does anyone else notice that?
