Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I was told it is because the 3.6 engine is set back so far in the frame rails the valve noise is amplified up the bulkhead to the cabin. If you remove the plastic insulated engine cover you can hear the noise much louder even at idle. They are aware they have a droan noise with the 3.6's and some are much louder than others. They do not know what can be done to correct it. I am working on resolution at this time. My dealer, Foss Motors, Exeter, NH has been extremely supportive and understanding of situation and is advocating for me.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Mine goes in to the dealer on Friday so I'm curious as to what my guys say about it. I'm very curious as well about the exhaust replacement. I'm not exactly getting warm fuzzies from the reports from everyone else, but the more people that report the issue, the better chance we have of getting a resolution. A 40k vehicle should not tick and rattle. Out of curiousity, have any of you had your first oil change yet? Just outside thinking that maybe it fades away as the engine breaks in.

I'll be sure to report back with my dealer's take on this. I have a tough time ignoring one of the first replies on this issue about finding heat shields rattling together and that a quick bend resolved the issue. Although, I would imagine that most dealers would be able to diagnose that one pretty quickly.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

haven't changed the oil yet, but I put the car on the lift and literally went up and down checking every single exhaust/ heat shield pieces you can imagine. I even took off a few things under the instrument panel because I thought it might be something loose there, and there is absolutely nothing.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

It appears that all 3.6's have and issue with valve train/manifold noise. Some seem to be louder than others. Best of luck with your dealer appointment, make sure you push them hard because Chrysler is aware that they have and issue.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Oh, I'll be pushing. Engine rattle in a 40k vehicle is not considered normal. They would have to prove to me that every V6 Jeep vehicle on the lot creates that same noise. I'm gov't furloughed for the next 11 Fridays so I've got time to spend in a dealer's waiting room. Besides, the other things that need fixed on mine (instrument cluster clear plastic - scratches, interior door trim - faded area) really make me question the quality of the vehicle.

At least my tranny is smoothing out now and Uconnect issues have been fixed with the updates so those are some positives for my experience so far.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Any updates on this problem? Did the exhaust repairs fix this issue?

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

Replacing the entire exhaust had no effect on the issue. Can't say I was shocked.

For the hell of it, I went to a different dealer in the same state, and they were a lot more helpful. The guy spent a whole day with it and acknowledged he heard the issue (which is usually a battle in of itself). Furthermore, that dealer was nice enough to let me drive a new Summit and a demo Limited they had in stock, and sure enough, both of them do it too (this is something the other dealer never offered). I think this in inherent in the design of the vehicle and we've taken it as far as it goes. They said they've logged the issue with Chrysler, but that's the best they could do. Not sure we can do much more at this point. I agree with ragoo in that they do it in varying degrees... for example, the other Limited I drove had a louder "rattle" than the Summit (which is about where my own Jeep is in terms of volume).

Guess that's where the quest to get this fixed ends for now. There's only so much time I can take off and put into pursuing something that isn't going to get fixed.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I was at the dealer on Friday to get a few issues checked out, one of which was the rattle. They assigned it to the resident GC expert...super smart guy, was sent to Chrysler school for this engine, etc etc. He bent some heat shields away from each other (several were touching and could have been vibrating against each other) and came out to talk to me and we went for a test ride. The noise was still present although not as obvious, loud and grating. He heard it and said it's just the variable valve timing in the engine, ramps up in that 15-40 MPH range to maximum power and then backs off to maximize fuel economy....just depends on the "driving conditions". In other words, it's just a natural characteristic of the engine. I still hear it in mine but it's nowhere near as obtrusive or bothersome as it was prior to the heat shield work. I asked if maybe it's something that will fade away as the engine breaks in or after a few oil changes but his response didn't sound too promising

That's something you guys might want them to check out though as my guy found several heat shields touching which were move-able via his "tap test" which I think is pretty self-explanatory. I still thought about scheduling a test drive in another one just to see but it kinda sounds like that's a waste of time.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

This is my rattle. Is this the same what you people have/are talking about? It is different than the bracket that has caused lots of issues for other people. In the video my jeep is in reverse and my foot is on the break while i give it a little gas. The rattle is most noticeable in reverse. It also seems to come and go. Any ideas?

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

I wish I could say it was the same sound but that is something completely different and I have no idea what it might be but I would get it checked out ASAP. Best of luck.

Re: 2014 V6 Rattle?

The sound in the video isn't the sound I am experiencing. And like I said, I heard it on several other new 2014's in stock, so it seems to be an inherent design issue.
