2014 WK2 Steering Wheel Squeaking Sound

I would like to know does anyone else hear a squeaking sound when you turn your steering wheel either direction. Every time I turn the steering wheel either left or right, I can hear a squeak coming from the engine compartment. It was so loud that my wife can hear the Jeep before I even pulled into my garage. You can hear the sound more if you are outside then being inside the Jeep. Just want your opinion.

I haven't ever had this squeak. I have 7K miles. It sounds significant enough that a dealer technician should easily be able to identify it, especially if it is consistent. Definitely doesn't sound normal.

Re: 2014 WK2 Steering Wheel Squeaking Sound

I found out where the squeaking sound is coming from. It is coming from the tension pulley, each time the steering wheel is turning left or right the tension pulley is moving causing the squeaking sound. Is this normal?

Please describe the movement. The pulley should spin but remain stationary on its mount. If you are saying that the pulley is sliding in and out on the shaft it spins on, this is not normal. It should be any easy fix.

Mine doesn't make that noise when turning the wheels. I'd let a dealer service tech listen to that for sure. Good luck!

Re: 2014 WK2 Steering Wheel Squeaking Sound

Thank You! You know what is funny, I have dropped this car off to the dealer yesterday and just got it back today. They still cannot figure out what is the problem and said they don't hear the sound no more. Will today while pulling in to my garage I can hear it. Guess it is going back to the dealership again.

Re: 2014 WK2 Steering Wheel Squeaking Sound

brought it to the dealer yesterday, they said that I need a new power steering pump, which they are going to replace on Monday. Only have 2200 miles and it is a little over then 2 months old. They gave me a Dart as a rental.
