Just putting it out there to see if anyone else has had any of these issues, or has any ideas. I know these are really odd, and I hope I am explaining them well. I am just really tired of chasing down mysteries. I've never owned a vehicle that makes so many oddball sounds.
1. This morning, while idling at my kid's school in the drop-off line, I started hearing what sounded like a tapping/clicking in what sounds like the roof once in a while. It was intermittent and no pattern. After dropping off my kid, I messed trying to reproduce the noise, and I found if I idle the car while leaving it in Drive and I have my foot on the brake, it's the only way I can make it happen. Note that it's really intermittent, sometimes takes a minute or two. It's a loud click though, almost like water dripping onto my roof from a height (no, it wasn't raining here
). I've heard all the relay clicks and all that from this car in the past, and I am sure this is new.
Caveat: I know cars can click or whatever when idling as certain devices turn on and off. I have Auto Climate on, and it is warm today. I also know that it's hard to localize a noise in a car when you're sitting there. I am pretty certain it sounds like the click was above and behind me, but I am not 100% sure.
2. Even stranger, after I was hearing the tapping above, when the drop-off line started moving, I started to hear a significant howl/hoot/tooting after I released the brakes and was rolling forward. It stopped when I braked, then started again when I released. Rinse and repeat several times in the drop-off line (all the time moving very slow). I have NOT been able to repeat this noise. Is this just a morning noisy brakes issue?
Caveat: I haven't ever had my brake pads replaced, as the service guys said I haven't needed it yet. I have about 37k on my Jeep.
Any help or insight is appreciated!
