2015 GC Limited issues

Hi all

I have purchased my grand new Grand Cherokee last month and now drove about 500+miles. Unfortunately, since several weeks ago, I started to feel jerks on my vehicle's transmission during the most of time when I was driving in a low speed and the gearbox shifted from 1 to 2. It's really annoying!!! the feeling like the vehicle has been forced to be shifted to 2.

In addition, I felt another potential issues in these days. When I was braking and decelerating the vehicle I can clearly feel the gearbox down to lower level. Meanwhile, speed in that moment would accelerate a lot.

Now, I haven't contact dealer and call a service yet but I will contact them next week. It is really sad to suffer this case!

Has everyone heard about any announcements from the officials regarding this problem? A recall? Also, I am really scared it would happen in the future (I suppose it could be fixed, but probably not).

Is it a possible to return this or if the problem could not be solved at final what I could do then? Lemon law?

Thanks!

Regards,
Joseph

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

Just wondering if u got your problem resolved. I have exact same vehicle and bought in February this year. I too have experienced the hard shifting but I also have another issue of the transmission changing from "D" to paddle shifting on its own. Paddles aren't being hit in error when this occurs either. Engine light does not come on and dealer isn't able to resolve as it happens randomly and they can't duplicate. Have u experienced this on your vehicle? Thanks

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

Let me guess, V6 engine? Very popular complaint with the V6 transmission...rough shifting, jerking.

Chrysler/Jeep has issued MANY transmission reflashes for this transmission, sometimes they only work for a bit...some have even had the transmission valve body replaced. Start with the dealership you bought the vehicle at, and if no luck...call Chrysler Customer Care and lodge a formal complaint, then if that doesn't work, get a lawyer.

I personally have a pending Lemon Law case on my 2014 GC Overland V6 because of all the transmission problems I've had to endure.

Friday Last week, I sent my vehicle to dealer for fixing. Actually, I booked this service on Monday and I reported the issues one of repair specialists who found quickly from their database that one of other owner suffered a similar issue with mine. They suggested a system update solution for him and also me as well.

After waiting over 1 hour, they brought my GC Limited 2015 V3.6 back. And I asked them if the problem has been fixed. They said we have completed the system update and inspected transmission which has all normal conditions. Then, I asked them again that if you guys had a test drive to see if the issues were still there. They said nope that I should test if myself.

Unfortunately, I have to say that this system update has only a little improve on shifting. My GC limited 2015 V3.6 has the shifting problem on the condition when you are starting from 1 at keeping low speed about 1800-2000 RPM the vehicle most of time would shift harshly to 2. This condition would largely happen while you drive in the downtown with high traffic density and also in scenario of parking your car. The feeling like the someone pushed the vehicle and sometimes you can hear a sound "dong" probably from transmission.

On the other hand, while I brake and deaccelerate the vehicle quickly I would have the harsh shifting from 4-3, 3-2, randomly. The experience was like if you were sitting in the car you could have a nod action when the car shifting from 4 down to 3 and 3 down to 2.

That were my whole experience so far. I am not sure what gonna do next honestly......

Yep, my NEW-PURCHASED Grand Cherokee Limited 2015 model is 3.6L Pentastar® V6 with new 8-speeds transmission. In fact, I have heard about that problem before but I guessed the new 8-speeds transmission should have no such issues at all.

Sadly, it's obviously not!!!

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

Drive it a bit. Steady acceleration. Also try to do some coasting deceleration (without brakes). Give it about 2000 miles while trying to do this. A good majority of them will "drive learn" and smooth out. The dealer should also have a procedure to help this along.

Some of them (not all) stay rough. Usually that means pressing for a new valve body which generally corrects the issue.

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

It's not firmware at this point nor do I think it's a learning issue.
I think learning will help adapt late or early shifting but won't "learn" how to not hard shift.

I think it's a Valve Body or Torque converter which is difficult to get diagnosed since they keep coming out with firmware "refinements" and due to past history that there were more serious firmware issues early on.

I read very few posts that have said HARD shifting was fixed with an update.
From someone that complains about hard shifting after another update, it's always "slightly better" and rarely fixed with firmware. It may have been the case very early in 2013 firmware might fix hardshifting. But not on 2015 (or a later build 2014).

I've had two of these generation jeeps from new. One that had problematic firmware. But neither vehicle EVER hard shifted. Late and early shifting, yes. Hard, never. My second one, has been perfect since day one (with like 15 miles on it).

Hard shifting is either the valve body or the torque converter.

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

Another harsh shifting thread?

Like Peter said, if you've had the adaptive relearn applied you'll need to drive it for awhile to allow the relearn to happen. For me, that was about 300-350 miles. I have maybe 4000 miles on it since it smoothed out after the relearn. So far, so good.

Re: 2015 GC Limited issues

Tell me again how the 8 speed is so much better than the 5 speed in my '12 please. I regularly tow a travel trailer and have no problems.

Of course I grew up towing race cars on tandem trailers with three speeds and no lockup to keep trans temps down.
