2015 grand Cherokee Lemon?

Bought my dream car just over two weeks ago. I bought a 2015 Limited with the luxury Group II package and the Advanced Technology Group. I had it for a week and drove it to the mountains for the weekend. About ten miles from home, the tire pressure warning came on and showed that the tires were all 46 psi rather than the 36psi that is shown on the door frame. We stopped to check and they were severely overinflated. Strange.... Then a transmission error started flashing stating that I should go to the dealer and leave the engine running. It kept flipping between the tire pressure error and the transmission error even after I let air out of the tires. I drove to the dealer where they told me they had never seen a message like that but that the transmission seemed to be fine and the tire pressure was now correct. They couldn't figure it out so they got a hold of Chrysler who told them that they needed to replace the instrument cluster due to a communication error. Four days later they replaced the instrument cluster and it did not fix the problem. So now they are waiting to hear from Chrysler again. I had the car for 9 days and put about 500 miles on it. Now it has been in the shop for almost 9 days. So frustrating. Anyone have anything similar happen? Any suggestions? Is it jinxed? I feel like they need to give me a new car.......

2015 Grand Cherokee with 480 miles Silver Met, thin base coat in the paint can see the gray primer on the hood and side, Now getting rattle around the overhead storage area, Took it to the Geico service center and they said it need a new paint job, The Service Manager can't see that, Took it to the repair center(Body Shop) the Dealer uses and they said the same(Need new paint job and Jeep should replace it as the Jeep need to come apart to repaint, and another Dealer told me that the new computerized process Jeep is using to paint is bad and they are receiving thin paint and orange peel, So they know this is happening.

Great to hear they are buying it back. Totally don't blame you for moving on. I found out today that Chrysler is giving me three years of free service for my troubles including synthetic oil changes if I go that route. It's a nice bonus.

I got my 2014 Limited back from the service department today. This was the fifth visit for a similar problem to antsJeep and csBear. The first error occured 4 weeks after delivery which was nine months ago. The car has now done 10,000klm.

They believe they have found the fault which was pin9 of the round connector on the side of the transmission, accessed from under the car after removing bash plates. As per the attached work log. The pin was loose and the male connector was almost falling out causing the fault. Or so they believe. The service manager advises that there have been two other Grand Cherokee's in Lismore and one in Western Australia which also had the intermittent "Service Shifter" error, dash lighting up like a Christmas tree and communication error codes.

Time will tell if it's truly fixed or not but fingers crossed as I do love my Jeep.

When you say "bash plates" are you referring to "skid plates" or something else?
My Jeep is doing The EXACT same thing and is at dealers now for diagnosis.
Mine is one weekmold with 1089 km's.
LOVE the car when it works right

Wow. My 14 GC Summit 4X4 eco diesel is going through the buyback process right now. Diesel issue and weird sensor issue too. Replacing the rear dif now. ABS light, traction control light, and service trans light all coming on. Plus some other errors. Been in and out of the shop since January. Right now since March 15th and still in there. I was thinking about replacing it with a 15 GC Summit non 4X4 with a V8. Service manager suggested not getting a 4X4 because he is seeing a lot of issues with those too. Do I just drop back and punt and pickup a 15 Ford Explorer?
Every other Chrysler product I buy goes to shit. Voyager van Awesome!!, Chrysler 300 piece of shit, Dodge Durango awesome, Jeep GC well..... Not sure why we keep coming back.

Ultimately up to you, of course, but your service manager is full of it. If there's one system in the GC where I've seen very few complaints, it's the AWD system.

I've got a '14 4WD EcoDiesel with 14K miles on it and hasn't been back to the dealer for anything - not even so much as a TSB.

Could any Grand Cherokee owners please elaborate on your "repurchase" or "replacement" experience with Chrysler/Jeep? Did the procedure take long? For those who were offered a replacement vehicle, did you get an equivalent 2015 model to replace your 2014? Did you have to pay any residual for mileage on your old vehicle? Were other "options" offered by Chrysler instead...like forgiveness of remaining loan balance, or given a set monitory award?

I ask because I too am dealing with the Resolution Dept. currently for my rough downshifting 2014 Overland V6 4x4, and I'm wondering what to expect.

My 2014 V8 Overland was replaced. It had some issues that, despite my dealer's best efforts, couldn't be fixed. I worked with them for about 6 months (about 3 months in the service manager was actively telling me to tell Chrysler to replace it) before telling Chrysler to replace it.

Generally, here's what to expect:

1) You have to directly say to Chrysler that you want a replacement or repurchase. Don't hint. Directly tell them.

2) Once you tell them this, your case manager will generally remove themselves from the situation as they will prepare to hand you over to ISG.

3) SEND IN YOUR LEMON LAW NOTICE CARD or equivalent. This WILL get their attention faster.

At some point ISG will contact you and start a negotiation process.

Note: even if a replacement/repurchase is agreed to, ISG moves fairly slow.

In my case, they agreed to build an identical 2015 to replace my 2014. It was hot-tagged and built relatively quickly overall, but sat at the dealership for about a month waiting on paperwork from ISG. The dealer and I had to continually bother them until they finally sent it over.

Total time from when I asked for the replacement and sent in the card to replacement delivery was about 3.5 months.

^ Thank you Peter for your input.

At this point after owning two 2014 Grand Cherokees with transmission issues (amongst other issues as well), I think I'd be more interested in a straight buyback or at least a payoff of my remaining vehicle loan (about $8,000).

I've already twice requested a "buyback", and was told by the Resolution dept. that I would have an answer this coming Monday (4/20/15).

Fingers crossed!

I had the same thing happen, Service Rep took it for a test drive and it failed to go into gear and the light came on, When we did get back to the shop the couldn't duplicate the fault in the parking lot , Nor would they write a ticket on it again said it was a Jeep Thing; oh yea were going to court over the Jeep thing.

SMH it's a Jeep thing would make me stay away from that dealer because I can't believe he decided that after a fault occurred while driving on the road but that can't be duplicated in a parking lot is not worth writing up a ticket/opening a case. Those are two very different set of circumstances, did you ask to talk to the service manager?

Got my call tonight from the Resolution dept. at Chrysler...and what did I learn? I learned not to put any trust into Chrysler Customer Care or their Resolution dept. when it comes to buyback or replacement requests...and just go straight to an attorney to pursue a "lemon law" case.

After at least 3 trips to two different dealerships for JUST the transmission issues I've had with my current 2014 V6 Overland...always receiving a loaner vehicle two models down from a Grand Cherokee...and that I've had to pay out-of-pocket for first (requesting & receiving reimbursement by Chrysler later), Kyle from the Resolution dept. offer was to take my vehicle back to the dealership YET AGAIN for God knows how long so they can work on it some more...AND allot me only $35 per day for a loaner.

What a f^cking insult. That's a resolution? My last 10 day loaner was a POS Chevy Sonic...yeah, that's how you should treat your customers Chrysler.

So after going back n' forth with Kyle a couple more times, he said that his "resolution" was the best he could do, and said if I still wanted to purse a lemon law case, he would have to end our conversation. So I responded I guess we are done then, and told him I guess Chrysler will be hearing from my attorney.

So my advice to Jeeps owners pursuing a "buyback" or replacement for their current vehicle...just get an attorney. It's the only way to deal with these thieving bastards.

My 14 Summit 4x4 EcoDiesel has been replaced with a 15 Summit Hemi 4x4. ISR was no issue. They were very helpful with the process. My dealership wasn't so helpful. They couldn't get another dealer to trade a Summit. Since it was a replacement, they didn't seem interested in helping. Two weeks of trying to find a replacement later, I called several other local dealers, found the truck I wanted, asked the sales manager if he would trade it to my dealer. He agreed immediately. I called my dealer and told them I would be buying stock number 123 and that other dealer was willing to trade. The truck showed up an hour later. Took it for a quick test drive and signed all the paperwork on the spot. Now I am waiting for a Jeep rep to show up to "give me" the truck I bought yesterday. Hopefully Monday but who knows. The new truck has the California package and looks awesome. These trucks are awesome and great as long as you don't get the .01% bad ones. I wish everyone the best of luck with their trucks. Hoping for the best in Chicago... :)

I wouldn't drop it from the top of my list based on anything I read on a forum. That's not to say that the GC hasn't been without its problems, or belittle the ones people here have experienced. It's merely that on a dedicated forum you'll most likely find more complaints than praise. It's a small cross section of owners and that's not necessarily indicative of the majority of them actually on the road.

Pick any vehicle, find a forum where it's being talked about and you'll most likely find the same being said about it as you read here about the GC.

:)

I'm on a number of forums. I don't see consistent complaints about the same problem, and I've NEVER seen so many buy-backs! That's just nuts!

I do realize that satisfied customers are less vocal than dissatisfied, but usually there are minor complaints, not complaints that put the car or truck into the shop for weeks on end without resolution.

Scary!

You're reading a relatively small sampling of all the people who own and drive one. Some of what you read is the result of poor service departments. If it bothers you that much then the Jeep is not for you.

I've owned 5 GC's since they came out in 93. None were trouble free and one went back as a lemon. That didn't make me shy away from them, nor does that scare me away from another.

THAT'S a sales pitch Jeep should be proud of! Yeah, I guess I should stick to Japanese vehicles. My last Honda went 232,000 trouble free miles. I sold it over a year ago and the new owner is driving it with no problems.

I'm in my 50's. I want a trouble-free vehicle. I'm getting too old to mess around with problematic vehicles.

It's a shame, they are classy looking.

OK, I'm definitely getting off on the wrong foot here. I came here for information, and I apologize if I seemed abrasive to you. I'll go back to lurk mode and read more before commenting. I'm certain there are plenty of positive posts that I can find too. This was probably the wrong thread to start with.

It is a hit and miss thing. I have had more issues with other vehicles than with any of my jeeps. I went through a 1996 grand limited with 0 problems , sold it with 225k on it after i rebuilt most of it and the new owner hasn't had an issue either. When I say rebuilt it was not due to any issues with it , I added headers , intake , tb , all new suspension , lift , etc , etc , all things to improve it.Also no issues with my 2008 SRT8 that I just sold off , and now am into an early build 2014 summit and no issues yet there either, although I haven't had it that long yet.
