Wife got into the Jeep to leave work. Car started fine, but would not shift out of park. She tried shutting it off, but it would now only go to "Run" or "Acc". Had to have it towed. Jeep remained on all night. Towed it to the dealer and they tell me "it might just need the computer updated" Of course they want $300 bucks to update it. And they say that might not be the problem. They tell me the computer update is on me and not cover under "any" warranty. Does this sound right at all?
Seems similar with the issue I was having a couple of days ago. My post is a few down the list. Curious how yours turns out and which module needs updating. Thinking it is the body control module and maybe has something to do with the shifter recall, but I'm only speculating. It was after the shifter recall that mine started having issues.
Yeah, that sounds like BS. I was getting an oil change one day when my local dealer told me they needed to update the computer and they did it free of charge. This was after the gear shifter update.
Good luck with it and please post back once this gets resolved. Curious to know what it is.
If you are still under your Basic Limited Warranty any TSB updates should be covered. If you'd like to PM our page with your VIN I'd be happy to look into this further for you.
So, I get to the dealer and they tell me that the Jeep is now working and ready to be picked up. They updated the computer (which they claim is not covered under any warranty), but are not charging me for the updates, only for the diagnostic they had to run. After the update the diagnostic found no problems with the vehicle. So instead of $300 bucks it only cost me $150 (cost of the diagnostic). I feel like I got robbed. I needed my vehicle as it’s used to get to work. I’m told if the problem happens again to bring it back and they will run the diagnostic for free.

You may want to check with JeepCares but if you are under your factory warranty I'm pretty sure there is no diagnostic fee and you should be reimbursed by FCA.
Update. Got the vehicle back but was forced to folk over $150 bucks. Vehicle has 47k on it so I'm told that the diagnostic was not covered, even though I brought an extended warranty that was suppose to cover everything up to 100k. Of course I feel like I was robbed. I was told that the computer update solved all the issues, so there was nothing to repair. Tried of arguing so my dealer (which I've purchased my last 3 vehicles from) just lost a customer.
well your miles put u over the basic warranty coverage so any type of service you would be charged unless you got the extended warranty with no deducible.
