2015 Overland Dashboard

After getting my new 2015 Overland home I noticed the leather dashboard was wrinkling in a couple of spots. I returned to my dealer and they took a few pictures to send to corporate. With in a week I was notified that I would be receiving a new dash.

Forward to today. Dropped off Jeep and with in a few hours I recieved a call from the service department. When the tech opened the new dash box he realized it was in worse shape than the one my Jeep came with. They are going to order another one.

Great service from my dealer but what the heck is going on with Jeep? How can they ship a new car with a bad dash? How can another bad dash get sent as a replacement?

Anyone else experience this? New to Jeep and not impressed so far.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

No excuses, but leather is a natural product that is susceptible to the environment...it's likely that there is an issue with the adhesive and leather being what it is, it bubbled up because it could. Hopefully, the replacement-for-the-replacement will be to expectations!

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

Reminds me of back when I needed to replace the UCS shocks on one of my older Jeeps.

They had defective shocks back then but mine was outside of the build date and didn't have them. I was just replacing them because they were worn out.

Of course, the new shocks exhibited the same symptoms as the defective ones. When I checked the label on the boxes, I found the production dates were smack in the middle of the production run of defective shocks.

Leave it to Chrysler to keep the defective shocks in their parts warehouse and then sell them to a customer. I pointed that out to the dealer. They were embarrassed.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

Service guy said its "normal" for leather dashes to have wrinkles?!?! He had seen it Cadillacs before too. Funny...I had looked at several 2014's that had perfect leather dashboards before ordering a 2015.

They are reordering and will check next dash before they schedule install.

Customer service is good so far. Hassle of having to bring a $50K vehicle with less than 500 miles in for replacement parts is frustrating.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

I was told that my replacement dash had "more texture" because it was shipped to Australia "rolled up" and would settle down in the sun. I think that comprises a three layer bullsh!t cake, no?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

It is a known issue; I had to have my dash replaced under warranty after it started wrinkling really bad. Wish I had gotten some picks at the time.

Ever since the dash was replaced it has been perfect.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

Strange as it may seem, I am one of those folks who preferred the plastic dashboards for that reason, exactly. In the sun, the leather will eventually discolor and crack. And I hated the half wood half leather steering wheel on the Overland anyways.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

My 2012 was delivered with two big bubbles just behind the dash cluster hump. Dealer spotted it during pre-delivery check and had a new dash ordered and installed in a couple of days. It looked like the adhesive was missed in two small areas and the heat had caused the bubbles to rise up.
I was a little sceptical that the dealer could do the repair but it turned out fine and I have had no further problems.

Re: 2015 Overland Dashboard

Update: New leather dash is in!!! 3rd one was the charm. This one is perfect. The leather texture looks slightly different than the original but no wrinkles.

It took my dealer almost a week to get it installed but they did a great job. No indication of scratches or rattles.

Not happy I had to go through this but happy with the customer service Jeep provided.
