2017 JGC TH Wind Noise

Hey, just curious is anybody else is experiencing any wind noise coming from the front passenger area? It comes in around 54 MPH and disappears around 62 MPH. The JGC only has 800 miles on it and we never noticed it until recently. The day we picked it up it was heavy rain the whole time so we never noticed it then. Going to take it to the Jeep dealer in Greensboro soon, just curious is anyone else has this problem.

Re: 2017 JGC TH Wind Noise

I have a TH 17 and notice it coming from rear passenger area. Certain it is from the sunroof.
More bothered with the rear camera not engaging consistently than the cabin noise from the "air" leak in roof.

Re: 2017 JGC TH Wind Noise

Not sure if it would be a simple fix, but it's not uncommon for a new vehicle to have some trim or weather stripping not installed correctly. Open the doors on that side and inspect all the weather stripping and trim in that area and make sure it's all seated correctly. Take a look at the door alignment as well and see if it's consistent all around. I always try to do as much as possible on my own before taking it back to a dealership which typically does more harm than good, especially on a new vehicle.

I had this issue on my 2017 GC Overland. One of the door seals was folded over. Fixed it and now it is fine. Yep, I always check over the seals on new vehicles. Had some wheel well trim popped out too.

Re: 2017 JGC TH Wind Noise

We are having the noise that thexr6 is having. Behind passenger seat, second row, up by their right ear near the sunroof.

We did take it in, drove around more the tech and got it to squeak like no ones business but it is not mph related, it is bumpy, twisty related. They almost told me they couldn't do anything as they couldn't narrow down where exactly. Our rig has 800 miles and told them they needed to figure it out or they can deal with Jeep because we were not going to just "live with it" as the technician recommended.

Turns out there is many having the issue and they are working on it. I will keep folks posted to resolve.

OP not sure yours is the same but good luck.

My 2017 JGC TH has also been having some wind noise since new, though mine is from the driver's side mirror/door area. I also examined all the door seals and weather stripping, and messed around with it a bit. Seems to happen only intermittently under very specific conditions now. My car has had this noise since new, it now has 2000 miles on it. On very windy days it can almost be a loud whistle, but otherwise I rarely hear it.

I agree with JTS in that I feel like the dealership have a good chance of making the problem WORSE if they dig around for the cause...

'17 Overland, identical issue as you. Had noise since new, I am @ 900 miles now. I spent a tremendous amount of time examining the weatherstripping, door frame and mirror/mirror area. I have found no anomalies at all. Not sure if wind is being deflected somewhere it shouldn't be b/c the noise is not normal...I came out of a '15 and had a '14, none sounded like this.

My noise seems to start @42mph and up and I also agree it is intermittent. Had it in for service for an unrelated issue, and they could not find anything wrong/duplicate.

I've toyed with the idea of doing some aero experiments to see what happens. For example, you could put some painters tape around the mirror attachment sites or along the door frame, and see if it makes a difference. Just haven't gotten around to messing with it, though.

There has got to be something off somewhere especially since the designs have not changed on the body or the mirrors. Is it possible the window glass was cut a hair short in that area? Guess it would leak...just been trying to brainstorm on what to check next.

What is your build date? Mine is 10/20

Some body shops have equipment to pressurize the inside, then check for leaks with smoke from the outside. Sometimes that's all that will work.
