Re: 2nd Breakdown in just over 2 weeks!!!

I just got the Jeep back. Everything seems fine. They are very sure that I wont have the same problems again, but time will tell. I will know more after my next desert trip.
They said that they did an update of the ABS systems software that was only released on the 8th of this month. Anybody have any info on this?
I am very happy for now and am very pleased with the service I received. They did a complete valet cleaning of the vehicle, but I am sure it needed that after their desert testing.

PS: Maybe it will now be more deserving of the sticker I had made.

The TSB for Electronic Stability Control came out on Jan. 8. ABS is part of that system, so maybe that was it.

Here is the thread about it:
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=17337

and the TSB itself:

Yeah, I saw that one and asked if it was the TSB that they performed, but they said it was not a TSB, just a general software update, but who knows?

Re: 2nd Breakdown in just over 2 weeks!!!

When I talked to my dealer about that TSB he said "Oh, it's not a TSB, it's a Rapid Response Item." I guess TSBs are solutions to particular problems -- i.e. "if the customer complains about X do Y" while a Rapid Response is like a mini-recall -- it gets done regardless of customer input. Maybe that's what he meant?

Ultimately no matter what they call it, it must be the same thing.

Can you try to get more info on that please? I may have to cross sand on a particular trail in Moab, and I don't want to have my 4WD fail. I'm picking my car up tomorrow, and I don't know if they will do all software updates automatically. Thanks!

All TSB's of this type should be applied then the vehicle is prepped, it all comes down to how lazy the service department is. A simple call to the dealer requesting this particular one be applied would save a lot of uncertainty.

Re: 2nd Breakdown in just over 2 weeks!!!

Dune,

Did your problem ever come back? I just ran into what seems like the same problem with my 2011 Overland. Had the air suspension and 4WD go out simultaneously 9 miles down a deserted beach by myself. Jeep instantly buried itself, and the service 4WD System and Service Air Suspension lights came on. Luckily found a guy from a nearby bait camp who helped me get back to civilization. Took three separate pull outs and a lot of really tense high speed driving in 2WD to make to the road. After about a quarter mile on pavement the system apparently self healed.

I think the Jeep should be designed to default to the maximum height and stay in 4WD. Having it default out to the low suspension setting and 2WD is a terrible design, and potentially dangerous depending on when the system decides to bail out on you.

The dealer found no error codes in my Jeep, but has said they found a "computer glitch" and have fixed it. That said, I am worried about taking my Jeep out and using it for what I thought it was intended for...

Will post once I get it back and get more info.
