If you look closely you can see it was under factory warranty.

Re: 3.6 L Check Engine Light - bad cylinder valve

In the US 2011s should be under the powertrain warrenty until at least late 2015. I'm just interested in what happens when warm weather returns as more get some miles on them.

Mine looks fine so far but only has 7600 miles on it. I did buy an extended warrenty though.

Re: 3.6 L Check Engine Light - bad cylinder valve

My opinion on this ticking head/misfire problems is that is just a quality control problem. If it were a design or materials problem they would all have the issue. It seems the ones that have the problem start with the ticking early on. When the pentastar first came out it was only in the grand cherokee and it seems those early ones didn't really have this problem. It seemed to start from what I can tell when production increased and it started to go in other vehicles like the wrangler. Mine has been ticking since it had less than 3k miles on it and now it has over 12K and it still runs smooth and strong but it has the tick from the left head. We have another pentastar in the family which is june 2011 build with over 20K miles and there is no tick at all on that engine and that person drives a lot harder than I do.

Re: 3.6 L Check Engine Light - bad cylinder valve

Had the same thing happen on my 2012 JGC. Bought used with 25,341. MIL came on at 25,360 miles on the way home from work the next day. Took it to the dealer and it was covered under warranty. Took 7 days and the dealer gave me BS about how the engine has to sit and relax for several days once the repair is done. Apparently he thought i was 16 and had a vagina. Same thing happened on my Lexus is250 trade in and it was fixed and back to me in less than two hours. Oh well...i got a SWEET 2011 dodge avenger to roll around in for a week. <sarcasm>

Re: 3.6 L Check Engine Light - bad cylinder valve

Mine is going into the dealer on Tuesday the 19th of March to replace the left cylinder head ( 18K miles) Dealer tells me that the left one is most likely to fail because it is made in Mexico and they have had many quality problems. The right head which is much more reliable is made in Canada, according to the dealer.
