Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Sounds like the same noise I can hear in my 5.7 Overland. When going slow in a parking lot I can hear it. It has been there since day 1, I now have 4000K on it and the noise has not gotten any louder. A few days ago I was trying different mode settings while moving slow, when I put it in Snow mode the noise stopped. So it must be the front drivetrain, don't think I going to let the dealer mess with it unless it gets worse

If this is a 4x4, it sounds like a problem that would come from the transfer case binding as the front and rear axles turn at different speeds. Is this a 4x4 and does it feel like it wants to hop?

It' a 4X4, feels normal except for the noise.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

I agree I don't feel anything no wheel hop or anything like that it's just the noise. I do think it may have something to do with the transfer case even though it sounds most of the time like the noise is coming from the rear. One thing I did notice the last couple days is after driving through an ice covered side street where power was being transfered due to wheel slip. After I got out on the main dry road the noise from the rear was quite loud for a mile or so at low speed. Maybe over time the noise will go away as the transfercase clutches get worn in.

We definitly have the same issue. My Jeep is at the dealer as I type this so I will post back with an update later tonight if I get one.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Just got a call from the dealer and they are ordering in two new wheel bearings for the rear axle. I had a feeling this might be the issue and am fairly confident it's going to fix the problem - the bad side of the coin is that the parts are 2 weeks out and and I have to take it back in. Hopefully this will be the last visit and I can go back to enjoying my WK2!

jp467: Guessing here but a possible reason your sound might go away when you apply throttle is that the pressure and weight of the Jeep is being applied to the failing bearing differently. When you apply torque the weight distribution in the suspension changes enough that the sound goes away. This would also explain why the noise presents itself when slightly turning the wheel when coasting - the bearing is getting pressure at just the right angle to aggrivate the sound.

I will be very interested to know if this resolves the issue. It will give me something to pass onto my dealer. At this point the dealer does not want to do anything more until they hear from engineering. I am just wondering how many wk2's have had this issue.

I have the same problem, it doesn't happen all the time but it does feel like a "bucking" at very low speeds, like when shifting into drive from reverse and beginning to move. Not sure what to do, the last time I brought it in for something I thought was an issue, they found nothing.

I think we have te same issue. I don't want to bring mine in yet either. Maybe when it needs an oil change I wil have them look at it. If they find anything I will post back here.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Let me know how you make out. I only have about 900 miles on my Jeep so it's gonna be a bit of a while before I go in for an oil change. Originally I thought it was me and my driving. I had big snow boots on so I thought it was me not being able to feel the gas pedal, applying too much pressure and letting up on it but it's since happened with regular shoes on. You described it as feeling like first gear in a standard car, that's a good description.

Do you get any noise with this. one thing to listen for, if you take it up to about 10mph and then just let it roll do you get like a rubbing noise from the rear when it gets down to about 5mph?

If you guys are getting more of a bucking sensation rather than a noise you might want to check out the thread below.

Did Shudder TSB fix a problem? 2011 Shudder problems thread

Here is the main gist of the info as provided by Milous:
