Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Yes it does. They have been talking to chrysler engineering and trying to trace the sound with listening equipment. They think it is coming from the right rear wheels bearing or muffler. I hope this takes care of it, but I myself think it is something in the tranfer case and noise is just traveling down the prop shaft to the rear. We will see.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Well wheel bearings did not resolve the issue. I think I need to decide if I want to pursue a buyback or just live with the noise until something just fails. I think this is a noise this vehicle will always make unless they come up a specific tsb to correct it. It's been in the shop 10 days this time not to mention the several other times it has been in all for this same noise. The only thing that would worry me about a buyback is what might be wrong with the next one I get. At least with this one I know what I have.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

I had the same issues. especially at home pulling out of my garage at very slow speeds. Brought it in and they replaced both front springs (TSB), replaced steering gear (TSB), replaced engine mounts and replaced both front shocks (RRT 10-079). Seems OK now:-)

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

I wish... the swap was to be done at the dealer I have been having all sorts of trouble with. I took my 5th day off work to bring the Jeep in yet again on Monday (2.5hrs round trip) only to get a call 3.5 hours later once I had driven home in the rental saying that they had accidentally sent the diff back the night before and that they hadn't touched the Jeep. Nothing like spending 5 hours behind the wheel for NO REASON AT ALL.

I then had to drive back in the rental, return it and then proceed to get in a yelling match over the phone just to get the service department to pay the $15 in gas I used travelling back and forth to the dealer in this complete waste of my time.

Needless to say I told them to shove it when they said they would re order the part - I'm SO done with those idiots and will be trying another dealer I have had recent success with. The saga continues...

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

One thing I can say is my dealer has been very good. They are doing everything they can to find the problem, and they are only about 10 minutes away. I think myself that the problem is in the tranfer case but I could be wrong.

Update:

My noise issue has been resolved. Replacing the transfer case repaired the issue.

Yes thank you!

Strangly the noise in my Jeep has all but dissapeared for the last few days. Hopefully it's permanant but if not I'll have them check out the transfer case.

Re: 3.6 Overland - Shudder? while in idle but driving in a parking lot

Out of curiosity did your sound only happen at the lower speeds? and its almost like a slight moan that cycles on and off every second or so? This is why I thought it might be a wheel bearing - very similar sound.

Yes just at low speeds like in a parking lot. It was just when coasting also and driving off center with the wheel slightly turned seems to make it worse. It was a moaning type sound that clearly sounded like it was coming from the rear, but was in fact coming from the transfer case and just being transmitted to the rear via the drive shaft. It took alot of effort on the part of the dealer working with chyrsler to figure this out. So I give them high marks for their effort and the quality job that was done. It is so nice to be able to drive this jeep without it making this noise. Hopefully I won't have anymore issues for a very long time.
